Potassium availability affects drought responses in plants through several metabolic roles, among which stomatal regulation, cell growth and xylem hydraulics. Vitis vinifera L. is a highly valuable crop and several genotypes have been selected during its millennial cultivation. Varieties show differences in their adaptability to stress conditions, making them more or less suitable to certain climatic and edaphic conditions. In Italy, grapevines are extensively cultivated, with Sicily representing one of the most significant wine regions. Use of carbon dioxide enrichment to obtain adult morphology of grapevinein vitro

A procedure has been developed forin vitro propagation ofVitis vinifera ‘Pinot noir’ from lateral-bud cuttings under high CO2 concentration (1200 µmol mol−1). Because of inhibition of rooting by CO2, this procedure requires a rooting pre-culture of explants on medium with sucrose before the CO2-enriched culture on sucrose-free medium. Shoot growth was enhanced by CO2 enrichment as a result of both a higher rate of leaf production and greater internode elongation. Leaf expansion and tendril growth were promoted and better rooting was obtained. Stilbenes, especially resveratrol and its derivatives, have become famous for their positive effects on a wide range of medical disorders, as indicated by a huge number of published studies. A less investigated area of research is their antimicrobial properties. A series of 13 trans-resveratrol analogues was synthesized via Wittig or Heck reactions, and their antimicrobial activity assessed on two different grapevine pathogens responsible for severe diseases in the vineyard. Spatial analysis of within-vineyard grape vine sensitivity to solar irradiance patterns. A case study using pinot noir in a complex terrain

14225; International audience; We analyze how the patterns of the solar irradiance affect the growth of Pinot noir grapevines at stand-scale over a hilly terrain bounded by a coniferous forest. The study area is located on the “Vineyard Cost” that produce some of the best wines of the Burgundy region. The work is based on i) a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and ii) the joint use of both irradiance and phenological models. Results show that the patterns of irradiance deficit are the primary driving force of the growth.
