La figura di Cassandra sulla scena tragica di V secolo: le testimonianze dell’Agamennone e delle Troiane

In both Aeschylus’ Agamemnon and Euripides’ Trojan Women, Cassandra plays the role of tragic heroine, subjected to Apollo’s manipulation, aware of the past and the present of the house of Atreus and able to predict the future; but on stage the people she speaks with do not seem to understand her predictions and are not persuaded by her words. The aim of the paper is to focus on the main features of the tragic character of Cassandra in Aeschylus and Euripides and to investigate the levels of manipulation and communication.

Against a background of anxious evocation of Dionysiac rites, Euripides’ Heracles stages the extreme degradation of the tragic hero, who as a consequence of the hatred of a divinity loses his heroic traits and above all his human ones in the exercise of brutal violence. By means of comparing Heracles to a furious bull assailing its prey, the tragedian clearly shows the inexorability of the divine will and its arbitrariness, and emphasizes madness itself through images traditionally associated with the bull. Pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) may participate in the pathogenesis of cartilage damage in osteoarthritis (OA) through the production of catabolic enzymes and inflammatory mediators. Induction of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) has previously been shown to exert anti-inflammatory effects in different cell types. We have investigated whether HO-1 induction may modify chondrocyte viability and the production of relevant mediators such as oxidative stress and prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) elicited by IL-1beta in OA chondrocytes. This article analyses the death of Astyanax in Troades by Euripides, within the wider context of the representation of violence in Attic drama. In her lamentation Andromache presents the killing of the child as barbaric and savage, so much so that she attributes the Greeks with a cannibalistic desire to feed on the meat of Astyanax. A partir de Platón se desarrolla en la reflexión gramatical y filosófica griega la idea de que ciertos vocablos tienen un origen onomatopéyico, tomándose como modelo de su uso (tanto por su conveniencia como por su condena) su aparición en el epos homérico. Mientras la filosofía vinculará tales palabras, entendidas como onomatopeyas, al origen del lenguaje, los autores de poética y gramática las estudiarán como elementos significativos en la valoración estética de la poesía. La doctrina griega sobre la onomatopeya pasará, a su vez, a las letras latinas.
