Bayesian chronological analyses consistent with synchronous age of 12,835-12,735 Cal BP for Younger Dryas boundary on four continents

2015

The Younger Dryas impact hypothesis posits that a cosmic impact across much of the Northern Hemisphere deposited the Younger Dryas boundary (YDB) layer, containing peak abundances in a variable assemblage of proxies, including magnetic and glassy impact-related spherules, high-temperature minerals and melt glass, nanodiamonds, carbon spherules, aciniform carbon, platinum, and osmium. Bayesian chronological modeling was applied to 354 dates from 23 stratigraphic sections in 12 countries on four continents to establish a modeled YDB age range for this event of 12,835-12,735 Cal B.P. at 95% probability. This range overlaps that of a peak in extraterrestrial platinum in the Greenland Ice Sheet …

SNOM signal near plasmonic nanostructures: an analogy with fluorescence decays channels

2008

International audience; Scanning Near-field Optical Microscope (SNOM) is based on local excitations of nanostructures deposited on a substrate (illumination mode). Ideally, the local source behaves like a dipolar emitter so that the SNOM signal is strongly similar to the fluorescence decay rates of an excited molecule that would be located at the SNOM tip position. We present here how the SNOM signal near plasmonic nanostructures can be used to analyze radiative and non-radiative contribution to the fluorescence decay rate.

Legume inoculants to reduce soil emissions of nitrous oxide

2012

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a potent greenhouse gas involved in depletion of the ozone layer and mainly arising from the soil and from agricultural activities. Within this framework, INRA teams inoculated soybean plants with natural strains of Rhizobia bacteria. Convincing results regarding the consumption of N2O greenhouse gases were obtained.

Agroecology and Strategies for Climate Change

2012

; Sustainable agriculture is a rapidly growing field aiming at producing food and energy in a sustainable way for humans and their children. Sustainable agriculture is a discipline that addresses current issues such as climate change, increasing food and fuel prices, poor-nation starvation, rich-nation obesity, water pollution, soil erosion, fertility loss, pest control, and biodiversity depletion.Novel, environmentally-friendly solutions are proposed based on integrated knowledge from sciences as diverse as agronomy, soil science, molecular biology, chemistry, toxicology, ecology, economy, and social sciences. Indeed, sustainable agriculture decipher mechanisms of processes that occur fro…

The Urban Exposome during Pregnancy and Its Socioeconomic Determinants

2018

Background: The urban exposome is the set of environmental factors that are experienced in the outdoor urban environment and that may influence child development. Objective: The authors’ goal was to describe the urban exposome among European pregnant women and understand its socioeconomic determinants. Methods: Using geographic information systems, remote sensing and spatio-temporal modeling we estimated exposure during pregnancy to 28 environmental indicators in almost 30,000 women from six population-based birth cohorts, in nine urban areas from across Europe. Exposures included meteorological factors, air pollutants, traffic noise, traffic indicators, natural space, the built environment…

Climate change: where are we right now?

2019

15ème Rencontres Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Nature : Changement climatique, humanité et biodiversité; International audience; Greenhouse gases (GHGs), naturally part of the atmosphere, have protected us from severe glaciations in thepast. Today, human activities increase GHG concentrations and cause rapid and unprecedented Earth warming.Climate change is not resumed only to warming, water cycle is also changed. All the researches confi rm: the climateis changing fast, too fast for ecosystems and societies to adapt. Despite the alerts of the international scientifi ccommunity, States gathered into Conferences of the Parties (COP) ratify agreements but do not comply with all theircommitments. Pu…

Structure-function analysis of peroxisomal ATP-binding cassette transporters using chimeric dimers

2014

Background: Peroxisomal ABC transporters are predicted to function as homodimers in mammals. [br/] Results: ABCD1 interacts with ABCD2. Chimeric proteins mimicking full-length dimers represent novel tools for functional study. Artificial homodimers and heterodimers are functional. [br/] Conclusion: Interchangeability between ABCD1 and ABCD2 is confirmed, but PUFA transport depends on ABCD2. [br/] Significance: For the first time, heterodimers in mammals are proven to be functional.[br/] ABCD1 and ABCD2 are two closely related ATP-binding cassette half-transporters predicted to homodimerize and form peroxisomal importers for fatty acyl-CoAs. Available evidence has shown that ABCD1 and ABCD2 …
