L'hyperthermie provoque l'agrégation de FLIP et restaure l'apoptose induite par TRAIL

2014

The TNF-family member TRAIL (TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand) is a cytokine involved in the immune anti-tumour surveillance. TRAIL is a promising agent currently under investigation for its anti-cancer properties with limited side effects on healthy cells. However, the use of TRAIL in oncology has been limited due to its lack of efficiency, mainly associated with cell resistance to apoptosis. The aim of this project was to study the interest of hyperthermia (or heat shock - HS) as an adjuvant for TRAIL therapy and the mechanisms involved in this sensitization. We have first evaluated the significance of this combination in a large variety of cancer cell lines known to be sensitive or r…

Soil aggregates and humus systems

2016

The European Society for Soil Conservation Conference, organized by the Babes-Bolyai University will take place from 15th June to the 18th June 2016 at the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The conference will cover areas like Soils – Our Common Future” stresses the vital interconnection between soil and life, as well as its importance for the future of the human society.; International audience; The survey of few main morphological soil aggregates (with intrinsic biological, chemical and physical contents) reveals the existence of different humus systems. Recognizable by naked eyes in the field, each humus system is confined in an ecological frame (climate, ve…

Influence de l'état protéique sur la dynamique de séparation de phase et de gélification dans un système ternaire aqueux à base de protéines de pois …

2012

Two aqueous systems at 20°C in 0.1 M NaCl and pH 7.2 containing globular pea proteins and sodium alginate were investigated in this study. First, phase behavior of (i) either low-denatured mixed globulins or (ii) their thermally pre-aggregated counterparts - alginate mixtures was compared using a multi-scale approach, by means of phase diagram and microstructure analysis by confocal microscopy. Thermodynamic incompatibility was the main driving force leading to phase separation within the mixtures, which presented according to their initial biopolymer composition both different morphological and time-evolution features of coexisting phases. Thereafter, a cold-set gelation for each system wa…

Peer effects in the light of students interactions and the subjective dimensions of school experience

2011

This Thesis addresses the issue of peer-effects in the context of school. From analysis of a large database produced by a Chilean national study (SIMCE 2004), this work investigates the mechanisms through which pupils with different levels of scholastic, human and cultural capital influence each other. These influences seem present for a diverse range of school outcomes, including academic achievement. Drawing on the literature produced by different disciplinary approaches —sociology, economics, social psychology and education— the study focuses on ways of identifying and measuring peer-effects. The presence of subjective dimensions capable of reflecting, in part, the school experience of p…

Systemic Approach and Modelling of the Socio-Spatial Segregation Phenomenon of Cities in the East of France.

2007

International audience; Territorial sustainable development must be regarded as a mutual enrichment of participatory research-action activity, which improves the utility and the accessibility of territorial knowledge and conventional research, which guarantees quality in the long-term. Territorial intelligence, which integrates the concepts of locality, knowledge based society and sustainable development is strongly orientated towards action: its ambition is to respect the ethical principles of territorial sustainable development which are participation, global and balanced approach to territories and partnership. The idea is to improve a territory by increasing the connection between resea…

Linking species interactions with phylogenetic and functional distance in European bird assemblages at broad spatial scales

2017

Aim: Understanding the relative contribution of different species interactions in shaping community assembly has been a pivotal aim in community ecology. Biotic interactions are acknowledged to be important at local scales, although their signal is assumed to weaken over longer distances. We examine the relationship between positive, neutral and negative pairwise bird abundance distributions and the phylogenetic and functional distance between these pairs after first controlling for habitat associations. Location: France and Finland. Time period: 1984 to 2011 (Finland), 2001 to 2012 (France). Major Taxa studied: Birds. Methods: We used results from French and Finnish land bird monitoring pr…

On the Impact of Heat Pumps Electric Load on the Power Consumption of Lampedusa

2020

The present paper reports the results of a simulation study regarding the impact of the adoption of heat pumps for domestic hot water production in the island of Lampedusa (Italy). In the study, it has been assumed to replace electric storage water heaters with heat pumps at every dwelling of the about four thousand domestic end-users of the island and, in addition, to control the heat pump operation in order to enhance some parameters that characterize the quality of the generation and distribution system of the island (power peak, energy losses and voltage drop). According to the results of the simulations, while the replacement of electric storage water heaters with heat pumps is able to…

Alkylated Aromatic Thioethers with Aggregation‐Induced Emission Properties—Assembly and Photophysics

2019

In this contribution, we present the synthesis and self-assembly of alkylated thioethers with interesting photophysical properties. To this end, the emission, absorption and excitation spectra in organic solvents and as aggregates in water were measured as well as the corresponding photoluminescence quantum yields and lifetimes. The aggregates in aqueous media were visualized and measured using transmission electron microscopy. Besides that, crystal structures of selected compounds allowed a detailed discussion of the structure–property relationship. Furthermore, the mesomorphic behavior was investigated using polarized optical microscopy (POM) as well as differential scanning calorimetry (…
