Identification of international media events by spatial and temporal aggregation of RSS flows of newspapers
2013
The GEOMEDIA research project (ANR Corpus, 2013-2015) aims to elaborate an international observatory of media events, based on the collection of RSS flows sent by 100 newspapers of French and English languages. This contribution (1) describes the complexity of the information contained in RSS flows according to space, time and media dimensions; (2) derives basic solutions for the identification of international events on the basis of procedures of time aggregation; (3) analyzes the spatial interaction between countries through an analysis of co-quotations in RSS flows; (4) checks the existence of possible interactions between the two previous dimensions.
Golgi Fragmentation in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Is There a Common Cause?
2019
In most mammalian cells, the Golgi complex forms a continuous ribbon. In neurodegenerative diseases, the Golgi ribbon of a specific group of neurons is typically broken into isolated elements, a very early event which happens before clinical and other pathological symptoms become evident. It is not known whether this phenomenon is caused by mechanisms associated with cell death or if, conversely, it triggers apoptosis. When the phenomenon was studied in diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, it was attributed to a variety of causes, including the presence of cytoplasmatic protein aggregates, malfunctioning of intracellular traffic and/or alterations i…
Colorectal cancer incidences in Lynch syndrome: a comparison of results from the prospective lynch syndrome database and the international mismatch r…
2022
Abstract Objective To compare colorectal cancer (CRC) incidences in carriers of pathogenic variants of the MMR genes in the PLSD and IMRC cohorts, of which only the former included mandatory colonoscopy surveillance for all participants. Methods CRC incidences were calculated in an intervention group comprising a cohort of confirmed carriers of pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants in mismatch repair genes (path_MMR) followed prospectively by the Prospective Lynch Syndrome Database (PLSD). All had colonoscopy surveillance, with polypectomy when polyps were identified. Comparison was made with a retrospective cohort reported by the International Mismatch Repair Consortium (IMRC). This com…
Melnādaino integrācija ASV profesionālajā basketbolā, 20.gs. 60.-80.gadi
2020
Bakalaura darbā ir apskatīti integrācijas procesi ASV profesionālajā basketbolā laika posmā no 1950.gada līdz 1980. gadam. Svarīgākais darba akcents ir veltīts 1960.gadiem, kas ietver integrācijas procesu sarežģītāko posmu paralēli ASV sabiedrībā norisinoties afroamerikāņu pilsonisko tiesību kustības aktivitātēm. Apzinoties darba oriģinalitāti latviešu valodā, papildus darbā tika iekļauts neliels ieskats melnādaino integrācijas ASV profesionālajā basketbolā priekšvēsturē pirms 1950.gada. Pētījuma galvenais mērķis ir atspoguļot melnādaino integrācijas procesus Amerikas profesionālajā basketbolā, izšķirt galvenos integrācijas procesa šķēršļus, paralēli noskaidrojot integrācijas veicinātājus. …

2013
No existía anteriormente ninguna traducción a ninguna lengua moderna. 4) Numerosas notas que ayudan…
Periplectómeno. La aristeia de una vieja figura cómica
1993
Periplectomenus, a character of problematic classification on which the thesis of contaminatio by Miles is based, has traditionally been related to senes lepidi. A comparative study shows that this character does not belong to this group and the features that make him differ bring him close to the parasite-sodalis opitulator. The aristeia provides the clues to interpret him: two dramatic lines converge on him, the one is reality, the other is pretensions, coinciding his features with the ones of the ὀψιμαθής described by Theophrastus in Characters. His complexity is the reason of his bad luck.
Design, Synthesis and Characterization of a Visible-Light-Sensitive Molecular Switch and Its PEGylation Towards a Self-Assembling Molecule.
2022
HBDI-like chromophores represent a novel set of biomimetic switches mimicking the fluorophore of the green fluorescent protein that are currently studied with the hope to expand the molecular switch/motor toolbox. However, until now members capable of absorbing visible light in their neutral (i. e. non-anionic) form have not been reported. In this contribution we report the preparation of an HBDI-like chromophore based on a 3-phenylbenzofulvene scaffold capable of absorbing blue light and photoisomerizing on the picosecond timescale. More specifically, we show that double-bond photoisomerization occurs in both the E-to-Z and Z-to-E directions and that these can be controlled by irradiating …
The Design Towards a Collaborative Subscription Service : The Case of The Finnish Newspaper Industry
2020
The newspaper industry is challenged with its business models. To stabilize revenues, publishers opted for digital subscriptions for generating additional revenue streams. However, digital subscriptions showcase limited success. News aggregator platforms may promise publishers a pool of paying readers. But platform fees and the loss of customer relationships enact barriers among publishers to join. This study proposes a software prototype based on design science research to address the aforementioned shortcomings by deriving design principles for a collaborative subscription service. Building on the strategic alliance, digital platform and business model literature, this research aims to id…
The Design Towards a News Aggregator Subscription Service: Results from An Online Experiment
2021
The newspaper industry is on a quest to discover sustainable business models. Digital subscriptions are stable revenue generators for most publishers. That being said, smaller publishers face challenges. By not having the same resource base to offset costs compared to larger ones, small publishers are in a constant state of financial unpredictability. Another persistent problem among them is the high churn rate of subscriptions (i.e., the cancelation rate), which suggests a value misalignment between readers and service. New services like news aggregators may promise publishers a large pool of paying readers, as readers have access to diverse content by different publishers and are willing …
Chorał gregoriański w służbie odnowionej liturgii
2019
The article is an attempt of presentation of Gregorian chant, which, despite the passage oftime and numerous cultural transitions, still remains prevailing and appropriateforthe contemporary liturgy, not only because of richness of musical content, but primarily due to a profound spiritual aspect. The overriding aim of the thesis is therefore to analyse the elementary aspects of the ancillary role of Gregorian chant in the renewed liturgy. This text considered in the context of community-making, meditative, ornamental and kerygmatic aspects of the ancillary role of chant. It also indicates the timelessness of the message of Gregorian chant, which is a vehicle for the Word of God, enables one…
