Cascaded H-Bridges Multielvel Inverters: grid connected advanced applications

Power electronics is going to increase in the modern electrical systems. It is well known that the use of power electronics allows the management and the control of the energy flow, obtaining voltage and current waveforms suitable for electrical loads. In this scenario, multilevel power converters are finding increased attention in industry and academia as one of the promising choices of electronic conversion thanks to their features and many different application fields with high power and medium voltage. Moreover, they are fundamental in interfacing electric grid to high power renewable energy systems (i.e. PV, Wind farm, Biomass, Fuel Cell etc.). Nowadays, the research is focused on the …

CADASTRAL MODELS IN EU MEMBER STATES

2019

Abstract Cadastres are always related to land: they are a creation of man as effect of his relationship with land. The different conditions of the Cadastre in 14 EU Member States, including the former EU Candidate States (that nowadays are also EU members), are shown in this paper. Half of EU countries store cadastral and registration data in the same database. Basically two original models of cadastral system exist in the EU, related with systems of land registration : 1) in the Central European model (beyond the area of the Germanic “Grundbuch”) Cadastre emerges as a graphic basis (map) of land registration (Land Registry), so that physical changes must be reflected in the Cadastre and le…

Catchment size and contribution of the largest daily events to suspended sediment load on a continental scale

2013

Abstract The classic approach defines an extreme event as a rare event identified by magnitude–frequency analysis and quantified by its deviation from a central value. They are key to understand geomorphological dynamics, since they are responsible for a considerable amount of work and “time compression”. Time compression means that most of the geomorphic work (particularly sediment transport) is produced in very short temporal intervals (i.e. in few events). Moreover, it is well known from magnitude–frequency analyses that events not necessarily extreme by magnitude could be responsible for a large amount of geomorphic work. To analyse the time compression of geomorphological processes, a …

Catechol-Initiated Polyethers: Multifunctional Hydrophilic Ligands for PEGylation and Functionalization of Metal Oxide Nanoparticles

2012

Bifunctional CA-PEG (catechol-poly(ethylene glycol)) and multifunctional CA-PEG-PGA/PEVGE (poly(glycidyl amine)/poly(ethylene glycol vinyl glycidyl ether)) ligands for the functionalization and solubilization of nanoparticles are introduced. Tunable polymers with polydispersities1.25 and molecular weights in the range 500-7700 g mol(-1) containing a catechol moiety for conjugation to metal oxide nanoparticles were prepared. The functional PEG ligands were synthesized starting from the acetonide-protected catechol initiator 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-benzodioxole-5-propanol (CA-OH) for oxyanionic polymerization. CA-OH was used both for homopolymerization of ethylene oxide (EO) as well as copolymerizat…

Study of the role of the CDC48 chaperone protein in plant immunity

2018

The chaperone protein CDC48 (Cell division cycle 48) is a major regulator of the quality control of proteins and is involved in various cellular processes in animals and yeast. In contrast, the role of CDC48 in plants is poorly known. In the present work, we investigated the function of CDC48 in plant immunity thanks to the cryptogein/tobacco biological model, cryptogein being produced by the oomycete phytophthora cryptogea.Three strategies were carried out. First, the dynamic of accumulation CDC48 together with intracellular events inherent to the immune response were analyzed in both wild-type and CDC48 overexpressing tobacco cells (CDC48-TAP line). Second, a list if CDC48 partners was es…

Cryopreservation of Escherichia coli K12TG1: Protection from the damaging effects of supercooling by freezing

2015

Injuries in living cells caused by water freezing during a freeze-thaw process have been extensively reported. In particular, intracellular water freezing has long been incriminated in cell death caused by a high cooling rate, but this supposition could not always be demonstrated. This work aims to discriminate the role of water freezing, dehydration and cold-induced injuries in cellular damage occuring during cryopreservation. For this purpose, Escherichia coli K12TG1 suspensions were maintained in a supercooled or frozen state at -20°C for times ranging from 10 min to 5 h. The supercooled state was maintained for a long period at -20°C by applying a non-injurious isostatic pressure (P<40 …
