Herbicidal value of essential oils from oregano-like flavour species

2017

ABSTRACTChemical composition and phytotoxicity of oregano, marjoram and Thymus mastichina essential oils against Portulaca oleracea L., Lolium multiflorum Lam. and Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv. has been investigated. Seventy-seven compounds reaching 97.3% and 99.4% were identified by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Carvacrol (60.42 ± 0.07%), p-cymene (15.52 ± 0.02%) and γ-terpinene (5.19 ± 0.02%) were the main compounds in oregano essential oil, whereas large amounts of 1,8-cineol (59.59 ± 0.85%, 49.49 ± 0.37%), linalool (13.05 ± 0.04%, 5.66 ± 0.01%) and α-terpineol (3.36 ± 0.10%, 5.59 ± 0.01%), followed by β-pinene (4.35 ± 0.39, 5.54 ± 0.01%) and α-pinene (4.11 ± 0.53, 4.28 ± 0.…

The Cu(II) complex of a C-lipophilized 13aneN4 macrocycle with an additional protonable amino group as micellar anion receptor.

2009

Three 13aneN4 macrocyclic ligands have been prepared bearing a -CH(2)NHR side arm (R = H, n-C(5)H(11), n-C(10)H(21)) on a carbon atom. When Cu(2+) is complexed in the macrocyclic ring, the amino group of the side arm undergoes an acid-base protonation equilibrium but it is not able to coordinate apically the metal cation even when it is deprotonated. The Cu(2+) complex with the ligand bearing the longest appended aliphatic chain is fully confined inside Triton X-100 micelles, and its ability to bind and sequestrate a series of anions inside micelles has been studied at two different pH values, i.e. both with protonated and neutral side-arm amino group. The favourable role played by the prot…

Titanocene–gold complexes containing N-heterocyclic carbene ligands inhibit growth of prostate, renal, and colon cancers in vitro

2016

We report on the synthesis, characterization, and stability studies of new titanocene complexes containing a methyl group and a carboxylate ligand (mba = −OC(O)-p-C6H4-S−) bound to gold(I)−N-heterocyclic carbene fragments through the thiolate group: [(η5 -C5H5)2TiMe(μ-mba)Au(NHC)]. The cytotoxicities of the heterometallic compounds along with those of novel monometallic gold−N-heterocyclic carbene precursors [(NHC)Au(mbaH)] have been evaluated against renal, prostate, colon, and breast cancer cell lines. The highest activity and selectivity and a synergistic effect of the resulting heterometallic species was found for the prostate and colon cancer cell lines. The colocalization of both tita…

Unveiling the high reactivity of cyclohexynes in [3 + 2] cycloaddition reactions through the molecular electron density theory

2018

[3 + 2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions of cyclohexyne, a cyclic strained acetylene, with methyl azide and methoxycarbonyl diazomethane have been studied within the Molecular Electron Density Theory (MEDT) at the MPWB1K/6-311G(d) computational level. These 32CA reactions, which take place through a one-step mechanism involving highly asynchronous transition state structures, proceed with relatively low activation enthalpies of 6.0 and 4.3 kcal mol-1, respectively, both reactions being strongly exothermic. The reactions are initiated by the creation of a pseudoradical center at one of the two acetylenic carbons of cyclohexyne with a very low energy cost, 1.0 kcal mol-1, which promotes the eas…

A spin-crossover complex based on a 2,6-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (1-bpp) ligand functionalized with a carboxylate group

2014

Combining Fe(ii) with the carboxylate-functionalized 2,6-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (bppCOOH) ligand results in the spin-crossover compound [Fe(bppCOOH)2](ClO4)2 which shows an abrupt spin transition with a T1/2 of ca. 380 K and a TLIESST of 60 K due to the presence of a hydrogen-bonded linear network of complexes.

Substituent effect on the σ- and π-electron structure of the nitro group and the ring in meta- and para-substituted nitrobenzenes

2017

An application of quantum chemical modeling allowed us to investigate a substituent effect on a σ and π electron structure of a ring and the nitro group in a series of meta- and para-X-substituted nitrobenzene derivatives (X = NMe2, NHMe, NH2, OH, OMe, Me, H, F, Cl, CF3, CN, CHO, COMe, CONH2, COOH, NO2, and NO). The obtained pEDA and sEDA parameters (the π- and σ-electron structure characteristics of a given planar fragment of the system obtained by the summation of π- and σ-orbital occupancies, respectively) of the NO2 group and the benzene ring allowed us to reveal the impact of the substituents on their mutual relations as well as to analyze them from the viewpoint of substituent charact…

The MIRS computer package for modeling the rovibrational spectra of polyatomic molecules

2003

International audience; The MIRS spectroscopic software for the modeling of ro-vibrational spectra of polyatomic molecules is presented. It is designed for the global treatment of complex band systems of molecules to take full account of symmetry properties. It includes e cient algorithms based on the irreducible tensor formalism. Predictions and simultaneous data fi tting (positions and intensities) are implemented as well as advanced options related to group theory algebra. Illustrative examples on CH3D, CH4, CH3Cl and PH3 are reported and the present status of data available is given. It is written in C++ for standard PC computer operating under Windows. The full package including on-lin…

Modeling Rain Isotopic Composition under Orographic Control: A Landscape Approach for Hydrogeological Applications

2021

Oxygen isotopic composition is useful for individuating recharge areas of groundwater bodies by the comparison with those of local rainfalls. While on a global scale general relationships, such as the isotopic vertical gradient or continentality effects, efficiently describe spatial variations of the isotopic signature, hydrogeological applications need spatial models that are more focused on the effects of local topographic structures and/or subsoil geology. This work presents a case study in northeastern Sicily (Italy) characterized by complex geological and orographic structures, in which isotopic composition of rainfalls is governed by orographic effects and the varying initial composit…

Measuring rill erosion using structure from motion: A plot experiment

2017

Abstract In this paper the results of a plot experiment on rill erosion are reported. The rill network, manually incised on the soil and further shaped by a clear inflow discharge, was surveyed using the three-dimensional photo-reconstruction (3D-PR) technique which allows to obtain a digital terrain model (DTM) by a large series of oblique images of the channel from consumer un-calibrated and non-metric cameras. The three-dimensional (3D) DTM and the quasi-tridimensional (2.5D) model were generated by Agisoft Photoscan software. For a single rill channel, the reliability of the 3D image-based ground measurements of morphological and hydraulic variables was positively tested by the correspo…

Beyond APAR and NPQ: Factors Coupling and Decoupling SIF and GPP Across Scales

2021

The connection between solar-induced fluorescence (SIF) and vegetation gross primary productivity is being widely investigated across spatial, temporal, and biological scales, including: a) studies at the leaf [1], [2], plant canopy [2]–[4] or satellite pixel scale [5], [6], b) temporally with studies spanning from diurnal [7] to seasonal scales [1], [3], [5], and b) biologically with studies covering various plant functional types (PFTs), e.g., crops [4], [7], deciduous [8] or evergreen forests [1], [3], in response to different sources of stress.
