This paper presents a new analytical framework for assessing spatial disparities among countries. It takes for granted that the analysis of a country’s performance cannot be limited solely to either economic or social factors. The aim of the paper is to combine relevant economic and non-economic (mainly social) aspects of a country’s performance in an integrated logical framework. BaMgSiO4:Fe ir viens no visizteiksmīgākajiem neorganiskajiem fotohromiem materiāliem, tomēr fotohromā efekta izcelsme BaMgSiO4:Fe nav viennozīmīgi izskaidrota. Darbā ir sintezēti BaMgSiO4:Fe paraugi, un tie ir pētīti ar difūzās atstarošanās optiskās spektroskopijas un elektronu paramagnētiskās rezonanses (EPR) spektroskopijas metodēm. Darbā apspriesta fotohromā efekta izcelsme BaMgSiO4:Fe, kā arī noteikta optimālā Fe koncentrācija un sintēzes apstākļi efekta pastiprināšanai.

Defective insulin secretory response to intravenous glucose in C57Bl/6J compared to C57Bl/6N mice

Objective: The C57Bl/6J (Bl/6J) mouse is the most widely used strain in metabolic research. This strain carries a mutation in nicotinamide nucleotide transhydrogenase (Nnt), a mitochondrial enzyme involved in NADPH production, which has been suggested to lead to glucose intolerance and beta-cell dysfunction. However, recent reports comparing Bl/6J to Bl/6N (carrying the wild-type Nnt allele) under normal diet have led to conflicting results using glucose tolerance tests. Thus, we assessed glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS), insulin sensitivity, clearance and central glucose-induced insulin secretion in Bl/6J and N mice using gold-standard methodologies. Tässä Pro Gradu -tutkielmassa tavoitteena on ennustaa Higgsin bosonin massa ottaen lähtökohdaksi hiukkasfysiikan standardimalli, johon on kytketty gravitaatio ns. asymptoottisesti turvallisena teoriana. Ennusteen laskemiseksi selvitetään Higgsin bosonin itseiskytkennän ja neljän muun standardimallin kytkinvakion juokseminen, eli kytkinvakioiden käyttäytyminen energiaskaalan funktiona, johtavassa kertaluvussa MS-skeemassa. Laser spectroscopy measurement of the 2s-hyperfine splitting in lithium-like bismuth

We have recently reported on the first direct measurement of the $2s$ hyperfine transition in lithium-like bismuth (209Bi80+) at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt, Germany. Combined with a new measurement of the $1s$ hyperfine splitting (HFS) in hydrogen-like (209Bi82+) the so-called specific difference ${\rm{\Delta }}^{\prime} E=-61.37(36)$ meV could be determined and was found to be in good agreement with its prediction from strong-field bound-state quantum electrodynamics.
