Pini Language and PiniTree Ontology Editor: Annotation and Verbalisation for Atomised Journalism

We present a new ontology language Pini and the PiniTree ontology editor supporting it. Despite Pini language bearing lot of similarities with RDF, UML class diagrams, Property Graphs and their frontends like Google Knowledge Graph and Protege, it is a more expressive language enabling FrameNet-style natural language annotation for Atomised journalism use case.

Genre of an Academic Lecture

AbstractThe lecture is one of the most common forms of instruction in universities throughout the world being used as a form of studies, with the aim of conveying knowledge to a large number of students. The article looks at the nature of the academic lecture genre, its specific characteristics in comparison to other types of written or spoken modes of different genres. It introduces key theories of Genre Schools, such as New Rhetoric Studies, Systemic Functional Linguistics and English for Specific Purposes, explores the peculiarities of the university lecture as a separate genre, looks at its structure and studies the characteristic features.

This exploratory pilot study shows that NGO's involved in Children Advocacy through Arts in Africa are willing to use a groupware, meaning a computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environment. Innovative ideas and best practices among NGOs would be shared easily worldwide. Little scientific information is available to help them make a sound choice. First-order visual interneurons distribute distinct contrast and luminance information across ON and OFF pathways to achieve stable behavior

The accurate processing of contrast is the basis for all visually guided behaviors. Visual scenes with rapidly changing illumination challenge contrast computation because photoreceptor adaptation is not fast enough to compensate for such changes. Yet, human perception of contrast is stable even when the visual environment is quickly changing, suggesting rapid post receptor luminance gain control. Similarly, in the fruit fly Drosophila, such gain control leads to luminance invariant behavior for moving OFF stimuli. Automatic Calibration of an Industrial RGB-D Camera Network Using Retroreflective Fiducial Markers

This paper describes a non-invasive, automatic, and robust method for calibrating a scalable RGB-D sensor network based on retroreflective ArUco markers and the iterative closest point (ICP) scheme. We demonstrate the system by calibrating a sensor network comprised of six sensor nodes positioned in a relatively large industrial robot cell with an approximate size of 10 m × 10 m × 4 m . Here, the automatic calibration achieved an average Euclidean error of 3 c m at distances up to 9.45 m . Classification of reference models: a methodology and its application

Classification is an important tool for perception and can be found in numerous scientific disciplines. Several application areas of classification are described in the context of information modeling. The usefulness of classification for reuse resp. selection of reference models is emphasized. A methodology to systematically create classification systems will be introduced. Furthermore, a classification system for reference models will be developed with the aid of the proposed methodology. This classification system gives a comprehensive, but abstract survey of 26 reference models found in the literature.

On “R” in phrasal compounds – a contextualist approach

Abstract In phrasal compounds of the type XP+Y, one can assume a relation “R” that holds between the head and the non-head just as in ordinary N+N compounds. The paper discusses the question how “R” should be understood. Three recent approaches, i.e., construction morphology, parallel architecture view, and indexicalism are discussed. It is argued that all approaches lack a pragmatic component which is necessary for modeling pragmatic inferencing with respect to phrasal compounds. Thus, an “unspecific meaning” approach to the semantics of phrasal compounds, together with contextualist views on pragmatic enrichment, is a serious alternative to the approaches discussed.
