This is an introduction to a compilation of six articles on language ideologies in the Romanian Banat. My dissertation was initiated by fieldwork in the area, resulting to a database of interviews among the Hungarian and German inhabitants. This data is compared to intellectual writings. With regards to researcher position, I identify myself as a traveler in the area and as a foreign scholar. Cold water immersion (CWI) is a popular method used for enhancing recovery from exercise. However, the efficacy of this approach is inconclusive and studies investigating variables contributing to overall performance are scarce. Additionally, few studies have investigated the recovery of stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) performance after a fatiguing SSC task. Diplomdarbā “Divvalodības ietekme 4 – 5 gadīgu bērnu vārdu krājuma apguvē” tiek analizētas teorētiskās atziņas par divvalodības ietekmi uz bērnu vārdu krājumu. Empīriskajā pētījumā tika analizētas intervijas ar četrām ģimenēm, un kā vecāki izvēlas valodas lietošanu saviem bērniem. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt divvalodības ietekmi uz 4 – 5 gadīgu bērnu vārdu krājuma veidošanos. Šajā darbā ir attēloti dažādi “divvalodības” jēdziena definējumi un to veidi, kā arī aprakstīts šī vecuma posma valodas attīstības raksturojums. Pēdējos gados vērtējošai valodai bijusi svarīga loma diskursa pētījumos, un tās izpēte tiek uzskatīta par veiksmīgu akadēmisko tekstu analizēšanas veidu. Tomēr nav daudz pētījumu, kas būtu veltīti vērtējošai valodai, kas atrodama tajos akadēmiskajos žanros, kas nodarbojas ar zināšanu popularizēšanu, un viens no šādiem žanriem ir žurnālu apraksti. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir izpētīt vērtējošas valodas lietojumu lingvistikas žurnālu aprakstos. The main purpose of this study was to explore similarities and differences in the association between two capabilities affecting the cardiorespiratory system (overall and multifactorial cardiorespiratory fitness and inspiratory muscle strength) and the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), in a group of active healthy seniors. Sixty-five individuals (age, 73.01 ± 5.27 years; 53 women) who participated regularly in a multicomponent training program completed the EuroQol 5D-5L questionnaire, the 6-min walking test (6MWT), and the maximum inspiratory pressure test (MIP). Basque pilota is a traditional sport played mainly by men. A project emerged in 2005 to promote female participation: Emakumea Pilotari (Woman pelota player). In this article we present the main points that emerged from an ethnographic study of the social relationships that playing Basque pilota can provide. The study was carried out in 2011-2012 season with a purposive sample of 28 adult women Basque pilota players (pilotaris) (between 22 and 60 years old). 26 participants were pilotaris in recreational groups and the other two were their trainers. Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan kahta näytelmää, jotka ovat Willy Russellin Educating Rita (1980) sekä Jonathan Larkinin Paradise Bound (2006). Molemmat ovat liverpoolilaisia ja kuvaavat paikallisen työväenluokan elämää eri näkökulmista. Tavoitteena oli selvittää, millaista työväenluokan kieli on näytelmissä: Vastaako se todellista työväenluokan kieltä? Onko kielessä eroja näytelmien välillä? Vastauksia haettiin niin yhteiskuntatieteellsen luokka-analyysin kuin kielitieteenkin avulla.
