In 1964, first (68)Ge/(68)Ga radionuclide generators were described. Although the generator design was by far not adequate to our today's level of chemical, radiopharmaceutical and medical expectations, it perfectly met the needs of molecular imaging of this period. (68)Ga-EDTA as directly eluted from the generators entered the field of functional diagnosis, in particular for brain imaging. A new type of generators became commercially available in the first years of the 21st century. Characterization of crystalline structure and morphology of Ga2O3 thin film grown by MOCVD technique

Growth of gallium oxide thin film was realized with MOCVD on (0001) sapphire substrate. Structural and compositional properties of thin film were studied employing trimethylgallium and water as precursors, carrier gases were H2 and N2. Obtained film is polycrystalline and predominantly consisted of (201) oriented β-Ga2O3. Sample exhibited blue luminescence which is attributed to oxygen vacancies. H2 gas proved to have beneficial effect on film quality and overall growth process.

Synopsis of the helminth communities of the lacertid lizards from the Balearic and Canary Islands

Helminth communities of reptiles have usually been considered as depauperate and isolationist, with low abundance and species richness when compared to other vertebrates. Nevertheless there are some insular reptile populations in which this general rule is not fulfilled. In this study, we compare helminth faunas from two groups of lizards living in two different archipelagos and having different feeding habits. Helminth infracommunities of Gallotia caesaris caesaris and Gallotia caesaris gomerae (Sauria: Lacertidae) from the Canary Islands (Eastern Atlantic).

A survey of gastrointestinal helminth communities of Gallotia caesaris caesaris (Lehrs, 1914) and G. c. gomerae (Boettger and Muller, 1914), from the islands of El Hierro and La Gomera, respectively, in the Canary Archipelago, Spain, was conducted to determine the prevalence, intensity, and diversity of intestinal parasites of these lacertid lizards. Larval forms of cestodes, nematodes, and acanthocephalans were found in the body cavity of G. c. caesaris; this lizard is the intermediate or paratenic host in the life cycle of these helminths. Low levels of relatedness on black grouse leks despite male philopatry

In lekking species, males cluster on specific areas for display (the leks) and females generally prefer to copulate with males on large aggregations. The maintenance of leks in which only a few males reproduce might be explained if subordinate males gain indirect fitness benefits. By joining a lek on which relatives are displaying, subordinates might attract more females to the lek thereby increasing the mating opportunities of their kin. Abstract Galloway-Mowat syndrome (GAMOS) is a rare developmental disease. Patients suffer from congenital brain anomalies combined with renal abnormalities often resulting in an early-onset steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. The etiology of GAMOS has a heterogeneous genetic contribution. Mutations in more than 10 different genes have been reported in GAMOS patients. EXCITONS, LOCALIZED STATES IN SILICON DIOXIDE AND RELATED CRYSTALS AND GLASSES

The excitons, localized states in crystalline and glassy silicon dioxide, germanium dioxide were studied by photoluminescent and photoelectric experimental methods. Results were compared with analogous investigations of related crystals, such as aluminum and gallium orthophosphates, and of related glasses, such as silica, sodium silicates, germanates, lead and phosphates glasses. Special attention was made to the influence of oxygen deficiency on localized states of glasses, in general, and to the nature of the 7.6 eV band in reduced silica, in particular.

Bacteria associated with winter mortalities in laboratory-reared common dentex (Dentex dentex L.)

A pathological study was conducted on laboratory-reared juvenile common dentex (Dentex dentex) suffering trickling and continuous mortalities. During a 3-month period (October-December), water temperature, clinical signs and mortalities were recorded. Moribund or dead fish were examined for bacteria and parasites. Bacteria were isolated from head kidney and external ulcers, and samples from the gills, intestine, stomach, trunk kidney, gall bladder and liver were taken for histology. Cumulative mortality reached 73%, and 80% of fish examined were positive for bacteria (102 isolates). In the present study, we investigated the progressive acclimation of the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis to different reduced seawater (SW) salinities and its effect on several biochemical markers and biotests. Mussels were purchased from a local mariculture facility during summer (SW temperature 27 degrees C, salinity 37.5 psu) and winter (13 degrees C, 37 psu) seasons, and transferred to the laboratory for acclimation to reduced SW salinities (37, 28, 18.5 and 11 psu). Stress-70 proteins in marine mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis as biomarkers of environmental pollution: a field study.

In the present work we have investigated levels of stress-70 proteins in the gills of mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis collected seasonally from subtidal rocky shores at 6 different sites of the Rovinj coastal area (Northern Adriatic, Croatia). 1-D analysis (SDS-PAGE) using monoclonal mouse antibodies anti-HSP70 detected two bands of stress-70 proteins, 70 and 72 kDa constitutively present during the year. 2-D analysis (IEF+SDS-PAGE) proved that the antibodies used detected HSP70 (pI 5.7–5.9) and HSP72 (pI 5.5–5.6).
