Suomalaisuuden ja toiseuden rajamailla : eksotisointi Gallen-Kallelan Museon Afrikka-kokoelman näyttelyhistoriassa

2020

Aineistonamme on kirjal…

New Labour and Devolution: radicalism or bricolage?

2008

This paper argues that New Labour's devolution proposals can be seen as part of a strategy of « political distinction » from the Conservative party, all the more necessary as there had been a conspicuous convergence in most other policy areas. After retracing the history of Labour attitudes towards Home Rule on the periphery of the United Kingdom in the XXth century, the paper focuses on the contemporary period, suggesting that Thatcherism was perceived as an “alien” doctrine in both Scotland and Wales, thus hardening the resolve of a significant part of the population to loosen or break the old constitutional ties. It is against this background that New Labour's positioning as the party of…

Long-transient conoscopic pattern technique

1999

0038-1098; Recent results on laser induced anisotropy in terbium gallium garnet are extended to the dynamic regime. We observed that the characteristic conoscopic pattern formation time presents a quadratic dependence on the beam size. The observed pattern intensity is accounted for by a simple analytical formula. The transient refractive index change due to thermal stress in the terbium gallium garnet is determined. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Deadly Liaison between Oxidative Injury and p53 Drives Methyl-Gallate-Induced Autophagy and Apoptosis in HCT116 Colon Cancer Cells

2023

Methyl gallate (MG), which is a gallotannin widely found in plants, is a polyphenol used in traditional Chinese phytotherapy to alleviate several cancer symptoms. Our studies provided evidence that MG is capable of reducing the viability of HCT116 colon cancer cells, while it was found to be ineffective on differentiated Caco-2 cells, which is a model of polarized colon cells. In the first phase of treatment, MG promoted both early ROS generation and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, sustained by elevated PERK, Grp78 and CHOP expression levels, as well as an upregulation in intracellular calcium content. Such events were accompanied by an autophagic process (16–24 h), where prolonging the …

Thin Film CIGS Solar Cells, Photovoltaic Modules, and the Problems of Modeling

2013

Starting from the results regarding a nonvacuum technique to fabricate CIGS thin films for solar cells by means of single-step electrodeposition, we focus on the methodological problems of modeling at cell structure and photovoltaic module levels. As a matter of fact, electrodeposition is known as a practical alternative to costly vacuum-based technologies for semiconductor processing in the photovoltaic device sector, but it can lead to quite different structural and electrical properties. For this reason, a greater effort is required to ensure that the perspectives of the electrical engineer and the material scientist are given an opportunity for a closer comparison and a common language.…

Struttura galleggiante ad elevata stabilità (Floating structure with high stability)

2015

2019

The eleventh-century manuscript known as the Codex Farnesianus (now Naples, BNN, IV. A. 3) sole medieval witness of Sextus Pompeius Festus' work De verborum significatione, transmits Aelius Gallus' definition of the legal concept of possession (Fest. pp. 260-262 L.). The interpretation of this definition entirely depends on the reconstruction of the text. Two passages are problematical because of two blank spaces (fol. 11r int., lin. 3 and lin. 4), in connection with which the scribe characterizes the model of the manuscript as 'blind' (caecus). Lindsay's edition of Festus' work does not constitute a codicologically valid starting point of for a reliable reconstruction of the definition. Fu…

Petro-archaeology of Gallo-Roman lime mortar. Attempt to reconstruction and interpretation of the “chaînes opératoires”: from material to ancient cra…

2003

Petro-archaeological research on Gallo-Roman lime mortars is based on a simple analytical methodology: observations with optical microscopy in transmission, which brings us a maximum of data about the material and the various stages of the “chaîne opératoire”. This work enabled us to draw the general features of the craftmanship (common practices of the ancient structores and tectores), to establish the relations between mortar composition and its “primary” and “secondary” architectural function, then to perceive what are the markers and motivations of the formula adaptations. The importance of the geological environment is shown, because it induces economic and technical choices, requiring…
