Agent-based Social Gaming with AMUSE

2014

Abstract This paper describes the core features and the multi-agent architecture of AMUSE (Agent-based Multi-User Social Environment), a novel agent-based platform for social gaming. AMUSE is designed to offer game developers readymade solutions to many issues that are common to social games like, e.g., advanced management of matches, turns and players. AMUSE is developed on top of WADE to leverage the scalable and solid agent-based deployment environment and the PaaS approach that it provides. This paper first outlines some of the motivations that originated the development of AMUSE. Then, it presents the multi-agent architecture of AMUSE and it enumerates the major applicative features th…

The Learning Process in Live-Action Simulation Games: The Impact of Personality, Motivation, Immersion, and Flow on Learning Outcome in a Simulation …

2021

Background Against the backdrop of the cognitive-motivational process model proposed by Vollmeyer and Rheinberg (1998) , this study investigates how the personality trait need for cognition in combination with a specific situation (short and long version of a live-action simulation game), current motivation, and immersion and flow (mediators) predict the learning outcome in the simulation game EVERYDAY LIFE IN THE CLASSROOM ( Starker & Imhof, 2014 ). Methods N = 138 teacher students played the short 2-hour version of the simulation game, and N = 77 played the long 2-day version. Need for cognition, current motivation, immersion, flow, and learning outcome were measured by self-report qu…

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence: the effect of misperceived signalling in a network formation process

2007

Social and economic networks are becoming increasingly popular in the last ten years, because of both the application of game theory to the network formation processes4, and the study of stochastic processes that fit the statistical properties of real world social networks.5 In the very recent years there have also been attempts to combine the contribution of these two streams of research, trying to find strategic models whose equilibria resemble the empirical data.6 A well known source of debate in the game theoretical approach is the incompatibility between stability and efficiency: in most of the models Nash equilibria are actually not the network architectures that maximize the overall …

Efficient Steering Mechanism for Mobile Network-Enabled UAVs

2022

HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) is becoming the de-facto video delivery technology over best-effort networks nowadays, thanks to the myriad advantages it brings. However, many studies have shown that HAS suffers from many Quality of Experience (QoE)-related issues in the presence of competing players. This is mainly caused by the selfishness of the players resulting from the decentralized intelligence given to the player. Another limitation is the bottleneck link that could happen at any time during the streaming session and anywhere in the network. These issues may result in wobbling bandwidth perception by the players and could lead to missing the deadline for chunk downloads, which result …

Non-cooperative game theory based stepwise power tariff model using Monte-Carle simulation for agricultural consumers

2019

Abstract In the present study the concept of non-cooperative game theory is proposed in the retail electricity market for introducing stepwise power tariff model (SPT) for agricultural consumers. The objective of the paper is to increase the energy generation through green energy generation sources (GEGS), introduction of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, education of families, standard wiring and appliance efficiency in tariffs for agricultural consumers with non-cooperative game theory. Agricultural consumers are able to generate a huge amount of electricity through GEGS and are able to control the consumption in their own way, and the non-cooperative game theory is introduced. Energy con…

A Model of Multiproduct Price Competition

1997

Abstract We provide a simple model of price competition in a multiproduct oligopoly market. The products are of general nature. We find that a pure strategy equilibrium exists and every equilibrium consumption maximizes the total social surplus. Consumers are characterized by a set function which determines their willingness to pay for every subset of products. If this function is convex, the set of equilibrium prices coincides with the core of a cooperative game generated by this set function and the firms extract total industry surplus. If it is concave, the only equilibrium price of a product is its marginal contribution to the consumer's total willingness to pay. Journal of Economic Lit…

Donor Genetic Determinant of Thymopoiesis rs2204985 Impacts Clinical Outcome after Single HLA Mismatched HSCT

2021

Abstract Introduction: A common genetic variant within the TCRA-TCRD locus has been recently identified as a predictive factor of thymic function and T cell repertoire diversity (Clave et al., 2018). Specifically it was shown in a mouse model that transplantation of rs2204985 AA human hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) into immunodeficient mice led to lower thymocyte counts and poorer TCR diversity. T cell mediated pathways are known to play a significant role in immunological processes affecting HSCT outcome like GvL, GvH and infection. Aim of this study was to investigate the potential impact of donor rs2204985 genotype on patient's outcome after unrelated HSCT. Methods: The study included 2,…
