Beebread consumption has a very long tradition; however, its composition and bioactive properties have not been studied thoroughly up to now. This study is expected to expand the knowledge of chemical composition of this bee product as a natural remedy and functional food ingredient. With the help of successive extraction with organic solvents of different polarity, more than 200 compounds were extracted from five samples of beebread and then identified by GC-MS method. The content of some phenol compounds (p-coumaric acid, kaempherol, isorhamnetin) with antioxidant properties has been determined quantitatively. The analysis of the volatile constituents of “Vastedda della valle del Belice”, a typical Sicilian pasta filata cheese, was performed using solid phase microextraction and high-resolution gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The research aimed to verify if the volatile fraction, determinant for cheese flavor, differs among producers and/or production seasons. Comparative analyses of volatile aroma compounds of the Pleurotus ostreatus JMO.95 fruit-body and its corresponding mycelium grown in liquid, on agar surface, or on solid support cultures have been carried out by dynamic headspace concentration using GC/MS and GC/sniffing. The aroma of the fruit-body was due essentially to the presence of octan-3-one and, in a lesser extent, to the presence of octan-3-ol. Other compounds, such as oct-l-en-3-ol, oct-l-en, 2-methylbutanol and a-pinene were also present in low concentrations. Degradation products of chlorsulfuron, chlortoluron, diuron, fluometuron, isoproturon, linuron, metabenzthiazuron, metobromuron, and monuron formed in the gas chromatographic injector have been used for identification of the respective herbicides. Abstract High molecular weight (HMW) fractions (MW > 1000) of effluents were obtained by ultrafiltration of elemental chlorine-free (ECF) bleaching (O-D-EOP-D-ED) and totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleaching (O-Z-Q-P-Z-Q-P-P) liquors of softwood (Pinus sylvestris) pulp. The fractions were studied by analytical pyrolysis coupled to gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) with and without TMAH (tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide) derivatization. n-Alkane profiles established by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were used to classify vegetable oils according to their botanical origin. The n-alkanes present in corn, grapeseed, hazelnut, olive, peanut and sunflower oils were isolated by means of alkaline hydrolysis followed by silica gel column chromatography of the unsaponifiable fractions. A derivatisation method that combines the formation of ethyl esters from the carboxylic groups and trimethylsilyl ethers from hydroxyl groups of the components of diterpenic resins is presented in this paper. This methodology involves two experimental steps: (1) formation of ethyl esters using ethyl chloroformate; and (2) the esterified compounds are lead to react with trimethylsilylimidazole to form the corresponding trimethylsilyl ethers. In the present work, a study attempting to characterize the Manila elemi and Mexican copal resins from the Burseraceae family, which are used as components of varnishes and binding media of artworks, has been carried out.
