The identification of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha-independent effects of oleoylethanolamide on intestinal transit in mice

Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) is an endogenous lipid produced in the intestine that mediates satiety by activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha). OEA inhibits gastric emptying and intestinal motility, but the mechanism of action remains to be determined. We investigated whether OEA inhibits intestinal motility by activation of PPARalpha. PPARalpha immunoreactivity was examined in whole mount preparations of mouse gastrointestinal (GI) tract. An international assessment of the adoption of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS®) principles across colorectal units in 2019–2020

Aim The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS® ) Society guidelines aim to standardise perioperative care in colorectal surgery via 25 principles. We aimed to assess the variation in uptake of these principles across an international network of colorectal units. Method An online survey was circulated amongst European Society of Coloproctology members in 2019/20. The anatomic basis of the transversus and rectus abdominis musculoperitoneal (TRAMP) composite flap

The aim of this study was to provide an anatomic basis for the transversus and rectus abdominis musculoperitoneal (TRAMP) flap, recently successfully introduced for vulvovaginal reconstruction. In 25 cadavers the width and length of the portions of rectus and transversus abdominis muscles suitable for the TRAMP flap as well as the length and diameter of the inferior epigastric artery were assessed. The mean length of the rectus abdominis muscle was 32.42±0.48 cm and its width 6.15±0.12 cm. Duodenogastrischer Reflux nach Vagotomie und Pyloroplastik

Bei 27 Patienten mit selektiver oder trunkularer Vagotomie und Pyloroplastik wurde gepruft, ob ein duodenogastrischer Reflux vorliegt. Die Untersuchung erfolgte rontgenologisch durch Instillation von verdunntem Bariumbrei in das Duodenum und durch Nachweis von i.v. appliziertem Bromsulphalein im Magensaft. Es konnte bei 20 von 23 Patienten rontgenologisch und bei 18 von 27 Patienten durch den Bromsulphalein-Nachweis ein duodenogastrischer Reflux festgestellt werden. In Zusammenhang mit Reflux standen postoperative Beschwerden wie Vollegefuhl, Brechreiz und Oberbauchschmerzen, sowie der Nachweis morphologischer Veranderungen der Magenschleimhaut im Sinne von Gastritiden verschiedener Stadien.

Effects of sodium fluoride on the mechanical activity in mouse gastric preparations.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the responses induced by sodium fluoride (NaF) on gastric mechanical activity, using mouse whole-stomach preparations. The mechanical activity was recorded in vitro as changes of intraluminal pressure. In most of the preparations, NaF induced a tetrodotoxin-insensitive biphasic effect characterized by early relaxation followed by slowly developing contractile response. The contraction was dependent on the concentration of NaF, whereas the relaxation was observed at only 10–30 mmol/L NaF. This study was designed to clarify the vascularization of the inner anterior abdominal wall with respect to the novel transversus and rectus abdominis musculoperitoneal (TRAMP) flap, which was introduced recently for vaginal reconstruction. A series of human cadavers was injected with a lead oxide-gelatine mixture by means of the deep inferior epigastric artery and subsequently dissected and examined by radiography.
