Impact of comorbidity and anemia in patients with oropharyngeal cancer primarily treated with surgery in the human papillomavirus era
2016
Background. Comorbidity and anemia strongly influence treatment and outcome of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), but respective data are frequently lacking in clinical studies. We evaluated 149 cases of oropharyngeal SCC primarily treated with surgery regarding the impact of these factors on disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). Methods. Data were recorded during treatment and follow-up visits. Human papillomavirus (HPV) association of oropharyngeal SCC was detected by p16 immunohistochemistry. Results. Patients with p16-positive disease were significantly less comorbid and anemic, and treated more aggressively. Comorbidity and anemia, but not p16 status, signi…
BCR-ABL Derived Peptide Vaccine in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Patients with Molecular Minimal Residual Disease During Imatinib: Interim Analysis of a P…
2009
Abstract Abstract 648 Introduction: Imatinib (IM) 400mg daily is the standard treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients and a complete cytogenetic response (CCyR) is achieved in the majority of patients within one year of treatment. In addition, a considerable number of patients reach a major molecular response (i.e BCR-ABL/ABL ratio <0.1%) but BCR-ABL transcript is still measurable in most of treated patients revealing the persistence of a minimal residual disease (MRD). In a previous small pilot study, vaccinations with p210 b3a2-derived fusion peptides in IM treated CML patients appeared to induce both a peptide specific immune response and a reduction of residual disease …
Related versus unrelated donor transplantation for high risk (HiRi) acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first complete remission (CR1)
2007
Abstract Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) from an HLA-identical sibling donor (SIB) is considered the preferred postremission therapy for younger patients with HiRi AML in CR1. The role of allo-SCT from volunteer unrelated donors (VUDs) is less clear and randomized controlled trials addressing this issue do not exist. We performed an observational landmark analysis on parallel cohorts of patients aged <60 years with AML in CR1 and HiRi cytogenetics who had been enrolled into the AML Cooperative Group (AMLCG) 1999 trial. 2347 patients were evaluable for the present update. 243/2347 patients were <60 years of age and had unfavorable cytogenetics [com…
The transcriptional activator rfiA is quorum-sensing regulated by cotranscription with the luxI homolog pcol and is essential for plant virulence in …
2009
The gram-negative phytopathogen Pseudomonas corrugata has an acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) quorum-sensing (QS) system called PcoI/PcoR that is involved in virulence on tomato. This work identifies, downstream of pcol, a gene designated rfiA, which we demonstrate is directly linked to QS by cotranscription with pcol. The deduced RfiA protein contains a DNA-binding domain characteristic of the LuxR family but lacks the autoinducer-binding terminus characteristic of the QS LuxR-family proteins. We also identified, downstream of rfiA, an operon designated pcoABC, encoding for the three components of a tripartite resistance nodulation-cell-division (RND) transporter system. The expression of pco…
Optimal design of CHCP plants in the civil sector by Thermoeconomics
2007
The optimization of design and operation of trigeneration plants for civil applications is a very complex task, because of the large number of internal and external variables affecting the energetic and economic results that may be achieved. Further, energy-saving and profit-oriented optimization processes usually lead to different solutions, in terms of plant lay-out, optimal size of components and operation strategy. Thermoeconomic methodologies are very effective theoretical structures for the optimization of industrial energy-systems characterised by regular energy-demand profiles; however, they are hard to use when approaching civil applications and energy systems in unsteady operating…
Reāllaika analīzes funkcionalitātes izstrāde datu noliktavai
2019
The taint of torture and the brazilian legal system
2019
In Brazil, the practice of torture intertwines deeply with its own history. The literature on the subject has had a greater intensification on its registers during the Dictatorial Regime (1964 to 1985). In spite of the Brazilian Constitution of 1988, Brazil only makes efforts to investigate the crimes of torture of this period to comply with the provisions of the United Nations in 2011. Within this scenario, the NationalTruth Commission (Law 12.528, of November 2011) was created with the purpose of clarifying the facts and circumstances of cases concerning human rights violations, as well as the Law on Access to Information (Law 12.527 of November 2011), which have regulated the constitutio…
Chaperoning the Mononegavirales: Current Knowledge and Future Directions
2018
The order Mononegavirales harbors numerous viruses of significant relevance for human health, including both established and emerging infections. Currently, vaccines are only available for a small subset of these viruses and antiviral therapies remain limited. Being obligate cellular parasites, viruses must utilize the cellular machinery for their replication and spread. Therefore, targeting cellular pathways used by viruses can provide novel therapeutic approaches. One of the key challenges confronted by both hosts and viruses alike is the successful folding and maturation of proteins. In cells, this task is faced by cellular molecular chaperones, a group of conserved and abundant proteins…
Syntheses with organoboranes. Part 14: Enolization–aldolization of conjugated cyclohexenones via dienolborinates
2002
Abstract Enolization of cyclohex-2-enone ( 1 ), 3-methyl- ( 2 ), 3,5-dimethyl- ( 3 ), 3,5,5-trimethyl- ( 4 ), and 3,4,5,5-tetramethylcyclohex-2-enone ( 5 ) with chlorodicyclohexylborane proceeds by deprotonation at the 6-position. Aldolization of the dienolborinates with benzaldehyde, and acetaldehyde, provides the corresponding anti aldols with 87–95% selectivity. Ketones 4 and 5 undergo competitive deprotonation at the 3-methyl group and aldolization at the 2-position. In contrast, lithium dienolates derived from 4 and 5 gave syn aldols with 95% selectivity.
Enantioselective zinc-mediated conjugate addition of terminal alkynes to enones.
2012
Zinc for conjugate alkynylation: The enantioselective conjugate addition of terminal alkynes to 2-arylidene-1,3-diketones in the presence of diethylzinc and a catalytic amount of (R)-VANOL has been developed. The reaction can be applied to different aromatic and heteroaromatic alkynes and enones, giving the expected products in good yield and with enantiomeric excesses up to 91%. The products can be enantiomerically enriched up to 99% ee by crystallization (see scheme).
