Validation of a 3D mathematical model for feed rod melting during floating zone Si crystal growth

Abstract A mathematical model of global 3D heat transfer in floating zone silicon single crystal growth process is used to predict the shape of the open melting front of the feed rod. The model is validated using measurement data from research-scale growth experiments. Shape profiles of the open melting front are obtained from the feed rod leftover using a movable dial gauge. Azimuthal asymmetry of the rim of the open melting front is revealed in both simulations and measurements, quantitatively indicating the influence of the main slit of the inductor.

The impact of climate change on extreme precipitation in Sicily, Italy

Increasing precipitation extremes are one of the possible consequences of a warmer climate. These may exceed the capacity of urban drainage systems, and thus impact the urban environment. Modelling of stylolite geometries and stress scaling

International audience; In this contribution we present numerical simulations of stylolite growth to decipher the effects of initial rock heterogeneity and stress on their morphology. We show that stylolite growth in a rock with a uniform grain size produces different patterns than stylolite growth in a rock with a bimodal grain size distribution. Strong pinning of large heterogeneities produce stylolite structures that are dominated by pronounced teeth, whereas a uniform grain size leads to spikes and a roughness that shows variable wavelengths. A comprehensive characterization of water stress is needed for the development of automated irrigation protocols aiming to increase olive orchard environmental and economical sustainability. The main aim of this study is to determine whether a combination of continuous leaf turgor, fruit growth, and sap flow responses improves the detection of mild water stress in two olive cultivars characterized by different responses to water stress. The objective of this paper is to analyse water level variations of the Baltic Sea on the Latvian coast. This is important because the Baltic Sea exhibits a number of remarkable phenomena. One of them is the sea level variations due to winds, complicated by the shape of the gulfs and islands. Gauge theory of the long-range proximity effect and spontaneous currents in superconducting heterostructures with strong ferromagnets

We present the generalized quasiclassical theory of the long-range superconducting proximity effect in heterostructures with strong ferromagnets, where the exchange splitting is of the order of Fermi energy. In the ferromagnet the propagation of equal-spin Cooper pairs residing on the spin-split Fermi surfaces is shown to be governed by the spin-dependent Abelian gauge field which results either from the spin-orbital coupling or from the magnetic texture.
