On the cardinality of almost discretely Lindelof spaces

A space is said to be almost discretely Lindelof if every discrete subset can be covered by a Lindelof subspace. Juhasz et al. (Weakly linearly Lindelof monotonically normal spaces are Lindelof, preprint, arXiv:1610.04506 ) asked whether every almost discretely Lindelof first-countable Hausdorff space has cardinality at most continuum. We prove that this is the case under $$2^{<{\mathfrak {c}}}={\mathfrak {c}}$$ (which is a consequence of Martin’s Axiom, for example) and for Urysohn spaces in ZFC, thus improving a result by Juhasz et al. Guaranteed error bounds for a class of Picard-Lindelöf iteration methods

We present a new version of the Picard-Lindelof method for ordinary dif- ¨ ferential equations (ODEs) supplied with guaranteed and explicitly computable upper bounds of an approximation error. The upper bounds are based on the Ostrowski estimates and the Banach fixed point theorem for contractive operators. The estimates derived in the paper take into account interpolation and integration errors and, therefore, provide objective information on the accuracy of computed approximations. peerReviewed

Radical Rings with Engel Conditions

Abstract An associative ring R without unity is called radical if it coincides with its Jacobson radical, which means that the set of all elements of R forms a group denoted by R ∘ under the circle operation r ∘ s = r + s + rs on R . It is proved that, for a radical ring R , the group R ∘ satisfies an n -Engel condition for some positive integer n if and only if R is m -Engel as a Lie ring for some positive integer m depending only on n .
WQ*-algebras of measurable operators

Every C*-algebra \(\mathfrak{A}\) has a faithful *-representation π in a Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\). Consequently it is natural to pose the following question: under which conditions, the completion of a C*-algebra in a weaker than the given one topology, can be realized as a quasi *-algebra of operators? The present paper presents the possibility of extending the well known Gelfand — Naimark representation of C*-algebras to certain Banach C*-modules.

Polymerization of methyl methacrylate through ionizing radiation in CO2-based dense systems

Herein, we report the use of ionizing radiation to induce a dispersion polymerization reaction in dense CO2. As a model system, the polymerization of methyl methacrylate in the presence of poly(dimethylsiloxane) stabilizers was investigated. It was demonstrated that the dose plays the key role in the progress of the reaction and in the morphology of the resulting polymer. Dispersion polymerization carried out in the presence of mono- and bifunctionalized surfactants gave differently structured polymers. In this thesis, we studied the interactions between an anionic polysaccharide (pectin) and monovalent cation (Na+) and divalent cations (Ca2+, Zn2+, Ba2+, Mg2+) in dilute regime (c Ca2+ > Zn2+ > Mg2+; this may be related to the affinity between the water molecules from the coordination sphere and the cation. Indeed, the affinity of the cation for water molecules increases in the reverse order: Ba2+ < Ca2+ < Zn2+ < Mg2+. Finally, we have used the three polysaccharides (PGA, LMP and ALMP - amidated low methoxyl pectin) in association with calcium ions to produce microparticles containing rutin to target drug release in the intestine.
