Distance-constrained data clustering by combined k-means algorithms and opinion dynamics filters

2014

Data clustering algorithms represent mechanisms for partitioning huge arrays of multidimensional data into groups with small in–group and large out–group distances. Most of the existing algorithms fail when a lower bound for the distance among cluster centroids is specified, while this type of constraint can be of help in obtaining a better clustering. Traditional approaches require that the desired number of clusters are specified a priori, which requires either a subjective decision or global meta–information knowledge that is not easily obtainable. In this paper, an extension of the standard data clustering problem is addressed, including additional constraints on the cluster centroid di…

Dynamics of myoglobin in confinement: An elastic and quasi-elastic neutron scattering study

2008

In order to clarify the role of hard confinement on protein dynamics, elastic and quasi-elastic neutron scattering experiments have been performed on ferric horse myoglobin in two different systems: the protein embedded in a porous silica matrix, and the corresponding hydrated protein powder. Elastic data have been analysed using two different models (dynamical heterogeneity and anharmonic double-well potential) that take into account deviations of elastic intensity from Gaussian behaviour. The profile of quasi-elastic spectra has been approximated by a combination of Lorentzian and Gaussian components. Comparison between the data relative to the two different samples indicates that geometr…

Zur Gelpermeationschromatographie in organischen Lösungsmitteln

1965

Development of injectable and durable kefiran hydro-alcoholic gels.

2020

Injectable, in-situ forming kefiran gels have been developed for potential applications as implantable drug delivery devices or scaffolds for tissue regeneration. Concentrated solutions (4, 5 and 6%w) of kefiran, extracted from kefir grains, have been assessed in term of viscosity and injectability through G26 syringe needles, and for their ability to undergo gelation upon mixing with different alcohols. Propylene glycol (PG) has been selected as gelling agent because it ensures homogenous gelation in relatively short times (from few minutes up to 6 h). The investigation of the rheological behavior of kefiran/PG gels varying polymer concentration and temperature (25 degrees C and 37 degrees…

Two-Component Hydrogels Formed by Cyclodextrins and Dicationic Imidazolium Salts

2014

In the framework of our recent interest in studying the gelling behaviour of imidazolium salts, we took into account the possibility of obtaining two-component hydrogels by combining cyclodextrins and dicationic imidazolium salts. In particular, we used diimidazolium salts differing in the alkyl chain length and in the size, shape, and coordination ability of the anion, namely the 3,3′-di-n-decyl- and 3,3′-di-n-dodecyl-1,1′-(1,4- phenylenedimethylene)diimidazolium dibromide, and 3,3′-di-n-dodecyl-1, 1′-(1,4-phenylenedimethylene)diimidazolium ditetrafluoroborate and dihexafluorophosphate. As far as cyclodextrins are concerned, to gain information on the effects of different sized cyclic olig…

The Gelling Ability of Some Diimidazolium Salts: Effect of Isomeric Substitution of the Cation and Anion

2013

The gelling ability of some geminal imidazolium salts was investigated both in organic solvents and in water solution. Organic salts differing either in the cation or anion structure were taken into account. In particular, the effects on the gel-phase formation of isomeric substitution on the cation or anion as well as of the use of mono- or dianions were evaluated. As far as the cation structure is concerned, isomeric cations, such as 3,3′-di-n-octyl-1,1′-(1,4-phenylenedimethylene)diimidazolium and 3,3′-di-n-octyl-1,1′-(1,3-phenylenedimethylene)diimidazolium, were used. On the other hand, in addition to the bromide anion, isomeric dianions, such as the 1,5- and 2,6-naphthalenedisulfonate a…

Functionalization of a polyaspartamide with glycidyl methacrylate: A useful method to prepare hydrogels through gamma irradiation

1999

α-β-Poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) was derivatized with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). Aqueous solutions of the obtained copolymer PHEA-GMA (PHG) were irradiated by gamma rays with a dose rate of 0.5 KGy/h and at zero °C in the presence or in the absence of N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (BIS). New hydrogel systems were obtained and characterized by FT-IR analyses and swelling measurements in aqueous medium at different pH values.

Hydrogels containing 5-Fluorouracil obtained by γ-irradiation. Synthesis, characterization and in vitro release studies

2001

The functionalization of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide (PHEA) with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) gives rise to a water-soluble copolymer PHEA-GMA (PHG) containing double bonds and ester groups in the side chain. Aqueous solutions of PHG alone or in combination with N,N′ methylenbisacrylamide (BIS) have been exposed to a γ-ray source at different irradiation doses in order to obtain polymeric networks. All samples have been prepared both as water-swellable microparticles and as gel systems. Microparticles have been characterized by FT-IR spectrophotometry and swelling measurements in aqueous media mimicking biological fluids. The effect of irradiation dose and BIS presence on rheol…

New biodegradable hydrogels based on a photocrosslinkable modified polyaspartamide: synthesis and characterization

1999

Abstract α,β-Poly( N -2-hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide (PHEA), a synthetic water-soluble biocompatible polymer, was derivatized with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), in order to introduce in its structure chemical residues having double bonds and ester groups. The obtained copolymer (PHG) contained 29 mol% of GMA residues. PHG aqueous solutions at various concentrations ranging from 30 to 70 mg/ml were exposed to a source of UV rays at λ 254 nm in the presence or in the absence of N , N ′-methylenebisacrylamide (BIS); the formation of compact gel phases was observed beginning from 50 mg/ml. The obtained networks were characterized by FT-IR spectrophotometry and swelling measurements which evide…
