Consumer texture preferences: Effect of age, gender and previous experience

2000

Four different strawberry candies with varying thickening agents (pectin, gelatin, starch, and gelatin + starch) were rated by three consumer age groups: teenagers (13–14 years), young adults (19–23 years) and the middle-aged (40–63 years) (n = 60 in each group). Age, gender, use frequencies and hedonic ratings often commercial candy types were collected as background information. Four preference groups were found by using preference mapping. The most important factor predicting preference of a sample were hedonic evaluations of commercial candies whose texture was similar to that of the test sample. If the consumers gave high hedonic ratings to one sample they also tended to report liking …

The Contemporary Contrade of Siena

2017

This chapter will provide the background information that is required in order to contextualise further analysis, doing so by outlining the main aspects of daily life within the contrade of Siena and the social and institutional organisation of those institutions. It proposes that their social order has to be interpreted in relation to the palio horse race, a festival which takes place biannually in Siena’s central square, and which is visited by a significant number of national and international tourists.

European Mediterranean Women and the “Showdown” Between Public Emancipation and Private Self-oppression

2020

This chapter emphasizes the unfinished nature of a form of late-modernity still hanging in the balance between frameworks of representation and legitimization regarding women and the roles they play within the public sphere in virtue of the emancipation that has taken place and the contradictions which emerge when trying to reconcile old and new models of femininity. We shall, therefore, try to disengage some of the knots linking gender violence and “cultural representations” but, above all, the “adaptive preferences” and “corrosive disadvantages” found in European women’s private lives, which clash totally with their social achievements and are attributable to emotional oppression and, sim…

Dzimumu stereotipi nodarbinātības jomā Baltijas valstīs

2021

Contemporary psychology and women: A gender analysis of the scientific production

2017

Despite important advances made in recent decades, women are still underrepresented in science (less than 30% of authorships). This study presents a bibliometric analysis of all the Psychology articles published in 2009 included in the Web of Science database (Thomson Reuters) in order to examine the contribution of women in contemporary Psychology, their pattern of research collaboration, the scientific content and the scientific impact from a gender perspective. From a total of 90,067 authorships, gender could be identified in 74,413 (82.6%) of them, being 40,782 (54.8%) male authorships and 33,631 (45.2%) female authorships. These data corresponded to 24,477 (49.9%) individual men and 24…
