We report herein an efficient and general method for the synthesis of new bismacrocyclic compounds, structural analogues of biscyclam AMD3100, in which the two macrocycles are linked together through carbon atoms of the cycles. Several representatives of this new class of biscyclic derivatives were prepared by reacting C-aminomethyl-13aneN4 with aromatic dialdehydes. Preliminary in vitro studies were performed to evaluate the affinity of these compounds towards the co-receptor CXCR4.
Tetramethylditin complexes: A general method for the preparation of a class of compounds with an unusual tintin bond

Abstract The preparation and physical and spectroscopic properties of eight compounds of the type Me4Sn2X2 (X O2CR, S2CNR2, S2P(OR)2) are described, starting from Me4Sn2Cl2. The spectroscopic data indicate that X functions as an isobidentate ligand. The tintin coupling constants are extremely large (ca. 11–15 kHz), and can be correlated with the pKa values of the corresponding acids HX.

Abstract In this paper a general method based on energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) analysis has been tested to assess its possible use as a tool to reconstruct the structure and determine the thickness of two and/or multi-layered materials. The method utilizes the X-ray intensity ratios of Kα/Kβ or Lα/Lβ peaks (or the ratio of these peaks) for selected elements present in multi-layered objects of various materials (Au alloys, gilded Cu, gilded Ag, gilded Pb, Ag–Au Tumbaga, stone surfaces with protective treatments, Zn or Nickel plating on metals). Backbone of credit relationships in the Japanese credit market

We detect the backbone of the weighted bipartite network of the Japanese credit market relationships. The backbone is detected by adapting a general method used in the investigation of weighted networks. With this approach we detect a backbone that is statistically validated against a null hypothesis of uniform diversification of loans for banks and firms. Our investigation is done year by year and it covers more than thirty years during the period from 1980 to 2011. We relate some of our findings with economic events that have characterized the Japanese credit market during the last years. Relation between Energy Level Statistics and Phase Transition and its Application to the Anderson Model

A general method to describe a second-order phase transition is discussed. It starts from the energy level statistics and uses of finite-size scaling. It is applied to the metal-insulator transition (MIT) in the Anderson model of localization, evaluating the cumulative level-spacing distribution as well as the Dyson-Metha statistics. The critical disorder $W_{c}=16.5$ and the critical exponent $\nu=1.34$ are computed.
Constraints on Area Variables in Regge Calculus

We describe a general method of obtaining the constraints between area variables in one approach to area Regge calculus, and illustrate it with a simple example. The simplicial complex is the simplest tessellation of the 4-sphere. The number of independent constraints on the variations of the triangle areas is shown to equal the difference between the numbers of triangles and edges, and a general method of choosing independent constraints is described. The constraints chosen by using our method are shown to imply the Regge equations of motion in our example.
Global and multiple test procedures using ordered p-values—a review

This paper reviews global and multiple tests for the combination ofn hypotheses using the orderedp-values of then individual tests. In 1987, Rohmel and Streitberg presented a general method to construct global level α tests based on orderedp-values when there exists no prior knowledge regarding the joint distribution of the corresponding test statistics. In the case of independent test statistics, construction of global tests is available by means of recursive formulae presented by Bicher (1989), Kornatz (1994) and Finner and Roters (1994). Thixotropy of Highly Viscous Sodium (Carboxymethyl)cellulose Hydrogels

A general method to quantify the thixotropic behavior of systems with very low thixotropy is proposed. The areas enclosed by the rheograms τ=fγ. must be fitted to functions with well-determined boundary conditions. From these equations the corresponding thixotropic areas are obtained, together with the theoretical area enclosed by the rheogram corresponding to the maximum rheodestruction. The proposed method is applied to high viscosity sodium (carboxymethyl)cellulose gels.
Nonlinear sculpturing of optical pulses with normally dispersive fiber-based devices

International audience; We present a general method to determine the parameters of nonlinear pulse shaping systems based on pulse propagation in a normally dispersive fiber that are required to achieve the generation of pulses with various specified temporal properties. The nonlinear shaping process is reduced to a numerical optimization problem over a three-dimensional space, where the intersections of different surfaces provide the means to quickly identify the sets of parameters of interest. We also show that the implementation of a machine-learning strategy can efficiently address the multi-parameter optimization problem being studied.

The conjugated, all-(E)-configured pentadecamer 2,5-dipropoxy-1,4-phenylenevinylene 1j was prepared by a multistep synthesis on the basis of hydroquinone. The procedure consists of a general method for the repetitive extension of oligo(phenylenvinylene) chains by two styryl units (7a ⇄ 10 ⇄ 12 ⇄ 14). The relatively rigid oligomer 1j represents a molecular wire of about 100 A. The absorption of 1j provides a proof for the convergence theory for electronic properties of conjugated oligomers with increasing number of repeat units.
