Influence of third-order dispersion on the propagation of incoherent light in optical fibers
2010
International audience; We study the influence of third-order dispersion effects on the propagation of an incoherent nonlinear wave in an optical fiber system. The wave spectrum is shown to exhibit a highly asymmetric deformation characterized by a lateral spectral shoulder and the subsequent formation of an unexpected constant spectral pedestal. A kinetic approach to the problem reveals the existence of an invariant that explains in detail the essential properties of such asymmetric spectral evolution of the wave.
Nonlinear optical fiber polarization tracking at 200 krad/s
2011
International audience; We demonstrate endless nonlinear polarization stabilization with a standard telecom fiber at a tracking speed of 200 krads/s. We provide a simple analytical estimate for the response time of nonlinear polarization control
All-optical nonlinear simultaneous polarization and intensity regeneration of a 40-Gb/s telecommunication signal
2012
We experimentally report the simultaneous all-optical regeneration of the polarization state and the intensity profile of a 40 Gb/s Return-to-Zero telecommunication signal by means of Kerr effect occurring in a single segment of fiber.
Optical Cavity-Less 40-GHz Picosecond Pulse Generator in the Visible Wavelength Range
2019
International audience; High-repetition-rate optical frequency-comb sources emitting picosecond pulses play important roles in variousscientific researches and industrial applications. Such ultrafast pulse sources are mostly generated in opticalcavities or microresonators. By means of the wavelength-conversion techniques, it is possible to transfer thecavity-based near-IR robust and compact sources to the mid-IR or to the visible wavelength regions [1-2], forwhich there is an increasing demand, for biophotonics and other applications. Here we demonstrate the generationof high-repetition-rate picosecond pulses in the visible wavelength range by using a fully optical cavity-lessconfiguration.…
2R regeneration architectures based on multi-segmented fibres
2008
The benefits of using a multi-segmented arrangement of optical fibres for Self-Phase Modulation-based 2R optical regeneration are described both theoretically and experimentally. Significant improvements in terms of the performance and practicality are achieved.
Temporal coherence in mirrorless optical parametric oscillators
2012
International audience; One of the unique features of mirrorless optical parametric oscillators based on counterpropagating three-wave interactions is the narrow spectral width of the wave generated in the backward direction. In this work, we in- vestigate experimentally and numerically the influence that a strong phase modulation in the pump has on the spectral bandwidths of the parametric waves and on the efficiency of the nonlinear interaction. The effects of group-velocity mismatch and group-velocity dispersion are elucidated. In particular, it is shown that the substan- tial increase in temporal coherence of the backward-generated wave can be obtained even for pumping with a temporally…
Multidimensional shaping of spatiotemporal waves in multimode nonlinear fibers
2019
Recent experiments have shown that nonlinear wave propagation in multimode optical fibers leads to complex spatio-temporal phenomena. In this talk, we introduce new approaches for the control and optimization of nonlinear beam reshaping in the spatial, temporal and spectral dimensions. The first approach applies to spatial beam self-cleaning the technique of transverse wavefront shaping, which permits to launch an optimized input mode combination, that results in the stable generation of a whole nonlinear mode alphabet at the fiber output. The second approach introduces a longitudinal tapering of the core diameter of multimode active and passive fibers, which permits to generate ultra-wideb…
Single photon MIR upconversion detector at room temperature with a PPLN ridge waveguide
2019
International audience; In this paper we describe an upconversion detector in the mid infrared (around 3.5 μm). We take advantage of the PPLN ridge waveguide technology to achieve single photon detection at room temperature on a single spatial mode. With a pump power of 192 mW we obtain a detection efficiency of 0.4% for 22k dark count per second, which corresponds to a noise equivalent power of 3.0 fW · Hz−1/2 and an internal conversion efficiency of 85 %/W of pump.
New exclusion limits on scalar and pseudoscalar axionlike particles from light shining through a wall
2015
Physics beyond the Standard Model predicts the possible existence of new particles that can be searched at the low-energy frontier in the sub-eV range. The OSQAR photon regeneration experiment looks for ``light shining through a wall'' from the quantum oscillation of optical photons into ``weakly interacting sub-eV particles,'' such as axion or axionlike particles (ALPs) in a 9 T transverse magnetic field over a length of $2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}14.3\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{m}$. In 2014, this experiment was run with an outstanding sensitivity, using an 18.5 W continuous wave laser emitting in the green at the single wavelength of 532 nm. No regenerated photons have been detected …
New theoretical and experimental concepts for frequency generation in optical fibers: modulation instability, pulsed Raman Laser and kinetic approach…
2009
Following a brief introduction to optical fibers, we combine the effect of modulational instability and Raman self-frequency shift to generate a frequency combs with a spectral width higher than 100 nm and a central frequency shifted towards higher wavelengths. Then, the stimulated Raman effect is used in a ring cavity coupled with nonlinear polarization rotation and polarization filtering. A pulsed regime is obtained at the wavelength of the first Stokes emission and presents a rich zoology of experimental dynamic pulsed regimes. A second main line of this manuscript considers the incoherent regime of supercontinuum generation. We show that under certain conditions, the spectral broadening…
