Use of a Semantic Language to Reduce the Indeterminacy in Agents Communication
2014
In the field of agent communications uncertainty and vagueness in the message content and in the achievable results play a primordial role when two agents (human or artificial) communicate. Even though the importance of vagueness and uncertainty has been recognized long ago, only recently mechanisms related to the communications’ semantics that allow a practical approach have been designed; more specifically, the development of tools such as agent programming languages and frameworks, which is a field of intensive research. On the other hand, recent theoretical ideas, drawn from situation semantics theory and the works of Sutton on semantic information, support this work. This paper applies…
Efficient Time Integration of Maxwell's Equations with Generalized Finite Differences
2015
We consider the computationally efficient time integration of Maxwell’s equations using discrete exterior calculus (DEC) as the computational framework. With the theory of DEC, we associate the degrees of freedom of the electric and magnetic fields with primal and dual mesh structures, respectively. We concentrate on mesh constructions that imitate the geometry of the close packing in crystal lattices that is typical of elemental metals and intermetallic compounds. This class of computational grids has not been used previously in electromagnetics. For the simulation of wave propagation driven by time-harmonic source terms, we provide an optimized Hodge operator and a novel time discretizati…
Customer Perception Driven Product Evolution - Facilitation of Structured Feedback Collection
2016
Competitive environment not only requires effective advertising strategies from the product producers and service providers, but also to do comprehensive and sufficient analysis of their customers to understand their needs and expectations. Successfully involving customers into a product/service co-creation process, companies more likely increase their future revenue. Customer feedback analysis is widely applied in marketing and product development. Among other challenges (e.g. customer engagement, feedback collection, etc.) automation of customer feedback analysis becomes very demanding task and requires advance intelligent tools to understand customers’ product perception and preferences.…
Grazing intensity in subarctic tundra affects the temperature adaptation of soil microbial communities
2015
Abstract Grazing by large ungulates, such as reindeer (Rangifer tarandus L.), in subarctic tundra exerts a considerable effect on the soil microclimate. Because of higher insulation by the aboveground vegetation in light versus heavily grazed areas, soil temperatures during the growing season are considerably higher under heavy grazing. Here, we hypothesized that these grazer-induced changes in soil microclimate affect the temperature sensitivity of soil microbial activity. To test this hypothesis, we conducted soil incubations at different temperatures (4 °C, 9 °C and 14 °C) for six weeks using soils from sites with contrasting long-term grazing intensities. Microbial respiration at low te…
Digital generations, but not as we know them
2019
The aim of this article is to see whether or not adolescents were the real leaders of the digital ‘revolution’ in the 1990s and whether they have sustained or even improved their position in the 2000s. The analysis is based on two surveys carried out in Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain in 1996 ( N = 6609) and in 2009 ( N = 7255). The results show that the adolescents belonging to the first digital generation in 1996 were the most equipped with new technologies, although not the most intensive users. In 2009, the adolescents lost their position as the leading adopters and lagged behind youth and young adults regarding the use of new technologies and computer skills.
La comunità tamil di Palermo. Socializzazione politica delle “seconde generazioni”
2023
Family Firm Heterogeneity and Tax Aggressiveness: A Quasi-Experimental Analysis of the Impact of Different Family Generations
2021
This paper analyses tax aggressiveness in family firm generations. Moreover, taking into account the heterogeneity in family firms, we check whether the successive generations in control show different tax avoidance behaviour. The empirical evidence, based on the quasi-experiment of the 2012 Spanish thin capitalization rule, reveals that there is a positive relationship between tax aggressiveness and successive generations. Moreover, the founder and second generations follow a similar conservative tax avoidance approach, whereas the third and fourth generations are found to be more tax aggressive.

Embriologia gemellare: discorso medico e rappresentazioni collettive
2019
Twins contributed to the development of different medical theories about generation. Conceived in a single sexual relationship, thanks to an excess of seminal material, or the result of superfetation, with one or more sexual partners, twins were perceived as ambivalent beings, either as signs of abundance, or on the opposite as contrary to natural and social order because of adultery. Comparing the similarity of twins with eggs adds to their association with animality.
