Descartesin liikkeen filosofia : tutkielma Descartesin mekaniikasta ja siihen liittyvästä metafysiikasta
2011
On one-dimensionality of metric measure spaces
2019
In this paper, we prove that a metric measure space which has at least one open set isometric to an interval, and for which the (possibly non-unique) optimal transport map exists from any absolutely continuous measure to an arbitrary measure, is a one-dimensional manifold (possibly with boundary). As an immediate corollary we obtain that if a metric measure space is a very strict $CD(K,N)$ -space or an essentially non-branching $MCP(K,N)$-space with some open set isometric to an interval, then it is a one-dimensional manifold. We also obtain the same conclusion for a metric measure space which has a point in which the Gromov-Hausdorff tangent is unique and isometric to the real line, and fo…
Existence of optimal transport maps in very strict CD(K,∞) -spaces
2018
We introduce a more restrictive version of the strict CD(K,∞) -condition, the so-called very strict CD(K,∞) -condition, and show the existence of optimal maps in very strict CD(K,∞) -spaces despite the possible lack of uniqueness of optimal plans. peerReviewed

Differentiaalimuodot ja niiden integrointi euklidisten avaruuksien alimonistoilla
2016
Quasi-Homogeneous Linear Systems on with Base Points of Multiplicity multiplicity 5
2003
In this paper we consider linear systems of ℙ2 with all but one of the base points of multiplicity 5. We give an explicit way to evaluate the dimensions of such systems
Impaired geometric properties of tibia in older women with hip fracture history.
2007
This study evaluated side-to-side differences in tibial mineral mass and geometry in women with previous hip fracture sustained on average 3.5 years earlier. Both tibial mineral mass and geometry were found to be reduced in the fractured leg. INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to evaluate side-to-side differences in tibial mineral mass and geometry after hip fracture and to assess the determinants of such differences. METHODS: Thirty-eight 60- to 85-year-old women with a previous hip fracture and 22 same-aged control women without fractures participated in the study. Bone characteristics of the distal tibia and tibial shaft of both legs were assessed using pQCT in order to compare …
Growth and aging of proximal femoral bone - a study with women spanning three generations
2015
Abstract. Osteoporotic hip fracture is a serious clinical event associated with high morbidity and mortality. Understanding femoral growth patterns is important for promoting bone health in the young and preventing fractures in later life. In this study, growth patterns of areal bone mineral density (aBMD) and geometric properties of the proximal femur were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (GE Lunar Prodigy, USA). They were studied in 251 girls from premenarche (11.2±0.7 yrs) to late adolescence (18.3±1.1 yrs), and compared to their premenopausal mothers (n=128, aged 44.9±4.1 yrs) and postmenopausal grandmothers (n=128, aged 70.0±6.3 yrs). Hip axis length (HAL) was the first to …
Developing Primary School Students’ Formal Geometric Definitions Knowledge by Connecting Origami and Technology
2019
In this paper, we present opportunities with the uses of origami and technology, in our case GeoGebra, in teaching formal geometric definitions for fifth-grade primary school students (11-12yrs). Applying origami in mathematical lessons is becoming to be recognized as a valuable tool for improving students’ mathematical knowledge. In previous studies, we developed origami and technology activities for high-school mathematics, but we wanted to explore if such approach would work in primary school as well. For this reason, we chose a flat origami model оf the crane and we used this model to introduce students to basic geometrical notions and definitions, such as points, lines, intersections o…
