Dall'origami al digitale: Jun Sato e la geometria
2016
The essay examines the artistic research of Jun Sato (Tokyo, 1947), an artist specializing in geometric series of photographies. The contribution was made on the occasion of the exhibition "Geometric Universes", which presented a selection of works by the Japanese artist in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and then at the FAM gallery with the patronage of the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art in Dallas and the inclusion in the official celebrations of the 150th anniversary of relations between Japan and Italy.
MADI: A Universal Art Movement
2017
The essay focuses on MADI, an artistic phenomenon of international breadth founded by Carmelo Arden Quin in Buenos Aires in 1946 that is based on the principles of no-expression, no representation, no simbolysm. The contribution focuses on the founding moments of the movement with particular reference to the figure of Joaquin Torres Garcia and Tomas Maldonado analysing the main exhibitions in Latin America and Europe. Furthermore, the text examines the artworks on display because, despite their similarities and affinities, the works of each artist in this exhibition are autonomous and carry their individual high-profile research that finds its highest completion through MADI. The exhibition…
IL GIOCO DEGLI SCACCHI NELL’APPRENDIMENTO DELLE ABILITA’ VISUO-SPAZIALI: UN INTERVENTO SPERIMENTALE NELLA SCUOLA PRIMARIA
2012
Tale a…
The Oort conjecture on Shimura curves in the Torelli locus of hyperelliptic curves
2017
Abstract Oort has conjectured that there do not exist Shimura varieties of dimension >0 contained generically in the Torelli locus of genus-g curves when g is sufficiently large. In this paper we prove the analogue of this conjecture for Shimura curves with respect to the hyperelliptic Torelli locus of genus g > 7 .
Multidomain spectral method for the Gauss hypergeometric function
2018
International audience; We present a multidomain spectral approach for Fuchsian ordinary differential equations in the particular case of the hypergeometric equation. Our hybrid approach uses Frobenius’ method and Moebius transformations in the vicinity of each of the singular points of the hypergeometric equation, which leads to a natural decomposition of the real axis into domains. In each domain, solutions to the hypergeometric equation are constructed via the well-conditioned ultraspherical spectral method. The solutions are matched at the domain boundaries to lead to a solution which is analytic on the whole compactified real line R∪∞, except for the singular points and cuts of the Rie…
Homeomorphic graph manifolds: A contribution to the μ constant problem
1999
Abstract We give a characterization, in terms of homological data in covering spaces, of those maps between (3-dimensional) graph manifolds which are homotopic to homeomorphisms. As an application we give a condition on a cobordism between graph manifolds that guarantees that they are homeomorphic. This in turn is applied to give a partial result on the μ -constant problem in (complex) dimension three.
Regularity of the Inverse of a Sobolev Homeomorphism
2011
We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the inverse ofa Sobolev homeomorphism to be a Sobolev homeomorphism and conditions under which the inverse is of bounded variation.
Space‐Time Isogeometric Analysis of Parabolic Diffusion Problems in Moving Spatial Domains

2016
Countless examples of misleading forecasts on behalf of both pre-election and exit polls can be found all over the world. Non-representative samples due to differential nonresponse have been claimed as being the main reason for inaccurate exit-poll projections. In real inference problems, it is seldom possible to compare estimates and true values. Electoral forecasts are an exception. Comparisons between estimates and final outcomes can be carried out once votes have been tallied. In this paper, we examine the raw data collected in seven exit polls conducted in Spain and test the likelihood that the data collected in each sampled voting location can be considered as a random sample of actua…
CliffoSor: A Parallel Embedded Architecture for Geometric Algebra and Computer Graphics
2006
Geometric object representation and their transformations are the two key aspects in computer graphics applications. Traditionally, compute-intensive matrix calculations are involved to model and render 3D scenery. Geometric algebra (a.k.a. Clifford algebra) is gaining growing attention for its natural way to model geometric facts coupled with its being a powerful analytical tool for symbolic calculations. In this paper, the architecture of CliffoSor (Clifford Processor) is introduced. ClifforSor is an embedded parallel coprocessing core that offers direct hardware support to Clifford algebra operators. A prototype implementation on an FPGA board is detailed. Initial test results show more …
