Perceptual seamlessness of large-scale tiled displays is still a challenge. One way to avoid Bezel effects from contiguous displays is to blend superimposed parts of the image over the edges. This work proposes a new approach for edge blending. It is based on intensity edge blending adapted on the seam description of the image content. The main advantage of this method is to reduce visual artifacts thanks to context adaptation and smooth transitions. We evaluate the quality of the method with a perceptual experiment where it is compared with state-of-the-art methods. Calibration of a three-dimensional reconstruction system using a structured light source

We present a method for calibrating a range finder system composed of a camera and a structured light source. The system is used to reconstruct the three-dimensional (3-D) surface of an object. This is achieved by projecting a pattern, represented by a set of regularly spaced spots, on the surface of the object using the structured light source. An image of the illuminated object is next taken and by analyzing the distortion of the projected pattern, the 3-D surface of the object can be reconstructed. Fast Image Mosaicing for Panoramic Face Recognition

In this article, we present some development results of a system that performs mosaicing (or mosaicking) of panoramic faces. Our objective is to study the feasibility of panoramic face construction in real-time. To do so, we built a simple acquisition system composed of 5 standard cameras which, together, can take simultaneously 5 views of a face at different angles. Then, we chose an easily hardware-achievable algorithm, consisting of successive linear transformations, in order to compose a panoramic face from these 5 views. Three-domain image representation for personal photo album management

In this paper we present a novel approach for personal photo album management. Pictures are analyzed and described in three representation spaces, namely, faces, background and time of capture. Faces are automatically detected and rectified using a probabilistic feature extraction technique. Face representation is then produced by computing PCA (Principal Component Analysis). Backgrounds are represented with low-level visual features based on RGB histogram and Gabor filter bank. Parallel implementation on DSPs of a face detection algorithm

In order to localize the face in an image, our approach consists of approximating the face oval shape with an ellipse and to compute coordinates of the center of the ellipse. For this purpose, we explore a new version of the Hough transformation: the fuzzy generalized Hough transformation. To reduce the computation time, we present also a parallel implementation of the algorithm on 2 digital signal processors and we show that an acceleration of a factor of 1.62 has been obtained.

Unfortunately, most anomaly detectors do not come with explanations about which features make a detected outlier point anomalous. Multiword Units in Machine Translation and Translation Technology

This article describes a new word alignment gold standard for German nominal compounds and their multiword translation equivalents in English, French, Italian, and Spanish. The gold standard contains alignments for each of the ten language pairs, resulting in a total of 8,229 bidirectional alignments. It covers 362 occurrences of 137 different German compounds randomly selected from the corpus of European Parliament plenary sessions, sampled according to the criteria of frequency and morphological complexity. Real-Time Human Pose Estimation from Body-Scanned Point Clouds

International audience; This paper presents a novel approach to estimate the human pose from a body-scanned point cloud. To do so, a predefined skeleton model is first initialized according to both the skeleton base point and its torso limb obtained by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Then, the body parts are iteratively clustered and the skeleton limb fitting is performed, based on Expectation Maximization (EM).
