George-Veeramani Fuzzy Metrics Revised
2018
In this note, we present an alternative approach to the concept of a fuzzy metric, calling it a revised fuzzy metric. In contrast to the traditional approach to the theory of fuzzy metric spaces which is based on the use of a t-norm, we proceed from a t-conorm in the definition of a revised fuzzy metric. Here, we restrict our study to the case of fuzzy metrics as they are defined by George-Veeramani, however, similar revision can be done also for some other approaches to the concept of a fuzzy metric.
"Frater, ave atque vale" (Catull. 101.10): fortuna literaria de una fórmula epigráfica
2011
[EN] In this article we offer an overview of some of the modern authors (specially Tennyson, Swinburne, V. Woolf, G. Moore, C.K. Stead,…
2022
The abandoned work is a form of voluntary incompletion because the interruption of the writing process is decided by the author himself. Abandonment is preceded by considerations and traces that make the process intelligible, especially when identified in avant-textual documents in which the author often not only plans the construction of the text but also reasons about it by tracing the criticalities that condition its progress. The article aims to reflect on some aspects of Georges Perec's abandoned works, showing how these are integrated within the completed works through the processes of dissemination and proliferation.
Not So Much Societal: The Catholic Church in Poland as a Veto Player
2021
George Tsebelis distinguished two forms of veto players’ actions: institutional and partisan. In a democracy, the Church is not able to play either role because it is not an element of the state’s institutional structure. This was the source for Simon Fink’s proposal to look at the Church as a societal veto player (VP). The case of Poland shows, however, that such an approach becomes inadequate in numerous situations. The Church’s influence on political parties, and particularly the state’s institutions, may be exerted outside society. Performed on the basis of the existing literature and political debates conducted since 1989, the analysis of the social and political reality of Poland all…
Microduplications at 22q11.21 are associated with non-syndromic classic bladder exstrophy
2009
The exstrophy-epispadias complex (EEC) comprises a spectrum of urogenital anomalies in which part or all of the distal urinary tract fails to close. The present study aimed to identify microaberrations characterized by loss or gain of genomic material that contribute to the EEC at a genome-wide level. Molecular karyotyping, utilizing 549,839 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with an average spacing of 5.7 kilobases, was performed to screen an initial cohort of 16 patients with non-syndromic EEC. A de novo microduplication involving chromosomal region 22q11.21 was identified in one patient with classic exstrophy of the bladder (CBE). Subsequent multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplifi…
2009
From the day when Theseus killed the Minotaur, the Maze turned into a form in search of meaning, and became useless. As a result, one was enjoined to ascribe nw meanings to the empty strcuture. Modern writers, when confronted with such a void, will have explored all its possibilities: while some of them, like Michel Butor, dismiss the sacred dimensions, others, like Serge Doubrovsky, see in it the image of the self (the body, the psyche...), and others still, like Raymond Roussel, Alain Robbe-Grillet or Georges Pererc, make of the pure geometrical structure of the labyrinth an aesthetic model, and thus a mirror of the work of art. However, one still have to ask whether the labrinth is a val…
2020
Celebrations were an important element in the functioning of royal and princely courts in Europe in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. They added splendor to the residences in which they were held and demonstrated the status of rulers: well-directed festivities spoke of their organisers’ political status. Such events not only took place in the closed courtyards of palaces, but also in the open air, which guaranteed a larger audience and made it possible to invite the media. Such events were also observed by foreign diplomats, who described them in their reports. This type of information can be found in the correspondence of Philip Plantamour, secretary of the English Ambassador Georg…
