2018

Apple tree bloom onset in Germany has advanced by 2 days/decade in 1951-2014 and by 3 days/decade in 1988-2014, behaving similarly in respect to its evolution since 1951 and its sensitivity to temperature to other species’ phenological spring phases. The evolution however was not linear; by conducting a split moving-window dissimilarity analysis (SMWDA) we were able to detect the “break-period” 1987-1989 which coincides with a breakpoint that has been identified in the phases of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). We observed distinct spatial patterns with apple bloom advancing from southwest to northeast and, most interestingly, a longitudinal gradient in the trend of apple bloom onset r…

Quo vadis nanomedicine?

2015

The interdisciplinary workshop ‘Quo Vadis Nanomedicine?’ was held on 10–11 April 2014 at the University of Exeter (Exeter, UK), coorganized by the Schumpeter-Research Group ‘Innovations in Nanomedicine’, funded by the VolkswagenStiftung at Exeter University, and the Sonderforschungsbereich (STB; collaborative research centre) 1066 ‘Nanodimensional Polymer Therapeutics for Tumor Therapy’, funded by the German Research Council (DFG) at the Johannes Gutenberg-University (Mainz, Germany). This international workshop brought together scientists, philosophers and social scientists in order to reflect, discuss and rethink the practices, concepts, methods, models and metaphors, as well as the medi…

Validation of Semantic Analyses of Unstructured Medical Data for Research Purposes

2019

BACKGROUND: In secondary data there are often unstructured free texts. The aim of this study was to validate a text mining system to extract unstructured medical data for research purposes. METHODS: From a radiological department, 1,000 out of 7,102 CT findings were randomly selected. These were manually divided into defined groups by 2 physicians. For automated tagging and reporting, the text analysis software Averbis Extraction Platform (AEP) was used. Special features of the system are a morphological analysis for the decomposition of compound words as well as the recognition of noun phrases, abbreviations and negated statements. Based on the extracted standardized keywords, findings rep…

Sakrament pokuty i pojednania w katechezie niemieckiej

2016

Problem konfesyjnego nauczania religii w Niemczech

2016

A Specific Radioimmunoassay for the Determination of Low Quantities of Indole-3-acetic Acid in Spruce Needles of Healthy and Damaged Trees

1988

Summary The aim of the present investigation was to develop a radioimmunoassay for the quantification of indole-3-acetic acid in needles of Picea abies in damaged and phenotypically healthy trees. Phenols, lipophilic substances or compounds with cross-reactivity had to be separated from the extracts in several purification steps. Measurements were carried out between May and October 1986 on trees from two spruce plantations. Marked differences were found in IAA content in needles of healthy and damaged trees. In most cases the needles of the damaged trees contain lower endogenous IAA levels. The auxin levels also depended on the age of the tree, the year of needle formation, and the vegetat…

2022

Austrian and German anthropological traditions are considered in view of the influence they had on global anthropology. The chapter is built round the centrality of the anthropological notion of culture and cultural dynamics. The particularistic and relativist notion of culture is in fact believed to have emerged from in Germany from the XVIII century, where intellectuals have juxtaposed the term Kultur to Zivilisation. Within German anthropology, universalistic perspectives on culture have continued through the Nineteenth Century, as in the evolutionary approach of Gustav Klemm and Johann Jakob Bachofen. A different form of cultural universalism was introduced by Adolf Bastian with his the…

Children's exploration of the concepts of home and belonging: Capturing views from five European countries.

2021

Understanding one's sense of belonging is a central part of identity formation and self-awareness; feeling safe somewhere, with specific people is identified as a basic human need. This paper explores the ideas of children from three age groups in five different European as they discussed the concepts of ‘home’ and ‘belonging’. Findings showed that the children's ideas could be organised into six interrelated aspects: Spatiality, Materiality, Multiplicity, Social Relations, Affect, and Dislocation. Whilst there were differences in the ways that the children conceptualised home across the classes, even the youngest children were able to describe their ideas using metaphors and abstract conce…

2020

Right-wing extremism in Germany is hardly a new phenomenon, but it has been changing in recent years. Right-wing extremists are becoming morę aggressive and the number of violent crimes they commit is increasing. Right-wing extremists are predominantly against immigration to Germany and Islamization. They are demanding substantial changes in the asylum law and glorifying German national values. Formal and informal groups of right-wing extremists take advantage of the fears of Islamie terror- ism, and they support hostility towards immigrants - primarily Muslims. The stronghold of the right-wing extremism is in the Eastern States of the German Federal Republic. In the paper, the Author is ru…
