Multicenter, Observational Study of Lanreotide Autogel for the Treatment of Patients with Neuroendocrine Tumors in Routine Clinical Practice in Germa…
2021
Abstract Background The long-acting somatostatin analog lanreotide autogel is effective in the treatment of patients with neuroendocrine tumors. Objective To evaluate the long-term treatment response in patients with neuroendocrine tumors receiving lanreotide autogel in routine clinical practice. Methods Non-interventional, 24-month study in patients with neuroendocrine tumors treated with lanreotide autogel (NCT01840449). Results Patients (n=80) from 26 centers in Germany and Austria were enrolled. Neuroendocrine tumors were mainly grade 1/2, metastasized, intestinal, and associated with carcinoid syndrome; 88.9% had received previous neuroendocrine tumor treatment. Of those, 84.4% had pre…
Initial chemotherapy with mitoxantrone, chlorambucil, prednisone impairs the collection of stem cells in patients with indolent lymphomas—results of …
2006
Myeloablative radio-chemotherapy with subsequent autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) significantly prolongs progression free and probably overall survival in follicular lymphoma (FL) in first remission. The current trial explored prospectively the rate of successful stem cell mobilization in patients with advanced stage FL after initial therapy with either Mitoxantrone, Chlorambucil, Prednisone (MCP) or Cyclophosphamide, Doxorubicin, Vincristine, Prednisone (CHOP) as part of a prospective randomized comparison of both regimens. ASCT patients received Dexa-BEAM (Dexamethasone, BCNU, Melphalan, Etoposide, Cytarabine) for mobilization of stem cells. Stem cells were collected and a mini…
The Highly Structured Climate in Families of Adolescents With Diabetes: Functional or Dysfunctional for Metabolic Control?
1998
Objective: Compare changes in perceived family climate over time in families with healthy adolescents and families with adolescents with diabetes and analyze the links to metabolic control. Method: In a total of four annually conducted surveys, 89 German adolescents with diabetes and 106 healthy adolescents as well as their parents completed the Family Environment Scale (FES). Metabolic control was determined by physicians' reports of adolescents' hemoglobin (HbA,) levels. Results: Compared to families with healthy adolescents, families caring for an adolescent with diabetes portrayed their family interactions as considerably more structured and less cohesive and stimulating. Family climate…
Recommendation for ophthalmic care in German preschool health examination and its adherence: Results of the prospective cohort study ikidS.
2018
BackgroundEach child in Germany undergoes a preschool health examination including vision screening and recommendations for further ophthalmic care. This study investigated the frequency of and adherence to these recommendations.MethodsA population-based prospective cohort study was performed in the area of Mainz-Bingen (Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany). All preschoolers were examined at the statutory preschool health examination, which includes vision testing (Rodenstock vision screener) with available correction in the last preschool year. Based on the results, recommendations for further ophthalmic care were given to the parents. Six weeks prior to school entry, parents were surveyed conce…
Leukemia and Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in Childhood and Exposure to Pesticides: Results of a Register-based Case-Control Study in Germany
2001
Previous studies have suggested an association between exposure to pesticides and different types of childhood cancer. This paper presents results from a population-based case-control interview study of parents of children less than 15 years of age, which was conducted in the states of West Germany from 1993 to 1997. Cases were 1,184 children with leukemia, 234 with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and 940 with a solid tumor; 2,588 controls were also included. Parental occupational exposures were found to be related to childhood cancer regardless of the time period of exposure and the type of cancer. This finding might partially be explained by different recall of past exposures by the parents of ca…
Patterns of liver injury in COVID-19 - a German case series.
2020
BACKGROUND: Reports of liver injury in patients with novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are emerging from China and the USA. A wide variety of liver function test abnormalities and few cases of severe liver failure have been reported. No data on the hepatic phenotype from Europe are available at current. METHODS: We report a case series of 44 consecutive patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Germany. RESULTS: At the time of admission, aspartate aminotransferase greater than the upper limit of normal was present in 70%, while alanine aminotransferase was elevated in 15.8%. Markers of cholestatic liver injury were altered only in a minority of patients. During hospitalization, 31% and …
A European family with histidine 58 transthyretin mutation in familial amyloid polyneuropathy
1997
1. IntroductionMore than 50 mutations of the transthyretin (TTR) [1]molecule resulting in different clinical forms of amyloidosisincluding familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP) havebeen reported to date. Within this FAP spectrum severaltransthyretin mutations are more frequent, others are rare. One mutation, the codon 58 histidine for leucine has pre-viously been recorded only in American subjects (Mary-land/German type), originally reported in a large kinship[2,3] and in another family from Ohio [4]. In the originaldescription of the Maryland/German type of amyloidosis[2], it was stated that the early immigrants in this pedigreewere from the Rhine river area, "nearly all of them from thelef…
Regional deprivation and non-cancer related computed tomography use in pediatric patients in Germany: Cross-sectional analysis of cohort data.
2016
BACKGROUND: Conflicting findings were observed in recent studies assessing the association between patients' area-level socio-economic status and the received number of computed tomography (CT) examinations in children. The aim was to investigate the association between area-level socio-economic status and variation in CT examination practice for pediatric patients in Germany. METHODS: Data from Radiology Information Systems for children aged 0 to < 15 years without cancer who had at least one CT examination between 2001 and 2010 were extracted in 20 hospitals across Germany. The small-area German Index of Multiple Deprivation (GIMD) was used to assess regional deprivation. The GIMD …
Age- and sex-dependent differences in patients with severe asthma included in the German Asthma Net cohort.
2020
Severe asthma affects less than 5% of asthmatics, but is associated with high costs and increased mortality. The aim of this study was to assess age- and sex-dependent differences in this patient group.Retrospective analysis of 1317 children and adults with severe asthma who are included in the German Asthma Net registry. There were more adults than children in the registry and patients' mean age was 52. Apart from children18 years, there were more women (57%) than men. The age of first diagnosis ranged from 0 to 76 years. 38% of patients had a positive bronchial reversibility after short acting bronchodilators. Quality of life, FEV1 and MEF 25 decreased with older age whereas treatment with…
e-Health-based management of patients receiving oral anticoagulation therapy: results from the observational thrombEVAL study
2017
Essentials e-Health based health care by an expert centre may advance management of oral anticoagulation. Outcome of patients was compared between an e-health based coagulation service and regular care. Patients in the coagulation service cohort experienced a significantly better clinical outcome. Lower risk for adverse events was related to anticoagulation-specific and non-specific outcome. SummaryBackground Management of oral anticoagulation (OAC) therapy is essential to minimize adverse events in patients receiving vitamin K-antagonists (VKAs). Data on the effect of e-health-based anticoagulation management systems on the clinical outcome of OAC patients are limited. Objectives To compar…
