Phenotyping: Case study of legumes plants

2012

International audience; The activities of the GEAPSI group, belonging to the large research unit Agroecology, is devoted to the genetic improvement of legumes important for European agriculture, and focuses on the cultivated species pea (Pisum sativum) and the field bean (Vicia faba). These studies are supported by basic research on a model legume, Medicago truncatula, used for taking advantage of the extensive genomics information available. Some examples will first illustrate how the combination of analytical, non-destructive phenotypical measurements and modelling can improve our understanding of plant functioning, taking as case studies legumes plants. The presentation will then describ…

Candida albicans interaction with M cells in an in vitro model of the human intestinal Follicle Associated Epithelium (FAE)

2013

National audience; Candida albicans (C. albicans) is a microorganism belonging to the commensal flora of the intestinal, oral and vaginal mucosal surfaces in healthy humans. This commensalism results from a balance between the virulence factors of the yeast and defense mechanisms of the host. However, disturbance of this balance in a vulnerable patient may result in intense mucosal colonization that promotes invasion of epithelial cells, translocation across the intestinal epithelial barrier and, eventually hematogenous dissemination. A better understanding of the mechanisms by which C. albicans interacts with the intestinal mucosa will improve our knowledge of the physiopathology of dissem…

Legumes and the environment

2017

Prod 2017-358a BAP GEAPSI INRA; International audience; The ability of legumes to fix atmospheric nitrogen gives them a crucial role in sustainable farming systems. Their presence can provide several other valuable ecological services. In Europe these assets have been neglected whilst developing highinput farming systems for maximizing yields. Diverse strategies are presented for maximizing ecological services provided by legumes in order to re-integrate them in cropping systems. Key words: Inputs, intercrop, ecological services, mineralization, weeds, N-fixation, value chain The second plenary session of the International Legume Society conference was dedicated to talks on “Legume and envi…
