Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov pairing in one-dimensional optical lattices

Spin-polarized attractive Fermi gases in one-dimensional (1D) optical lattices are expected to be remarkably good candidates for the observation of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) phase. We model these systems with an attractive Hubbard model with population imbalance. By means of the density-matrix renormalization-group method, we compute the pairing correlations as well as the static spin and charge structure factors in the whole range from weak to strong coupling. We demonstrate that pairing correlations exhibit quasi-long-range order and oscillations at the wave number expected from the FFLO theory. Many-body physics with ultracold gases

This article reviews recent experimental and theoretical progress on many-body phenomena in dilute, ultracold gases. Its focus are effects beyond standard weak-coupling descriptions, like the Mott-Hubbard-transition in optical lattices, strongly interacting gases in one and two dimensions or lowest Landau level physics in quasi two-dimensional gases in fast rotation. Strong correlations in fermionic gases are discussed in optical lattices or near Feshbach resonances in the BCS-BEC crossover.

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan itsemurhan ja lapsenmurhan kysymyksiä amerikkalaisen kirjailijan Sylvia Plathin (1932−1963) tuotannossa sekä kirjailijan elämään kohdistuvissa representaatioissa. Analysoin Plathille omistetun nettifoorumin Sylvia Plath Forum kirjoituksia sekä erityisesti runon ”Edge” tulkintoja Plath-tutkimuksessa. Teoreettisena lähtökohtana toimii René Girardin mimeettisen halun teoria. Plathin elämäntarinan kohdalla mimeettisen halun tematiikan tekee relevantiksi kolmiodraama, joka rakentui Plathin, hänen aviopuolisonsa kirjailija Ted Hughesin ja tämän rakastajattaren Assia Wevillin välille. Hindrances to recognition in Finnish music schools

This article examines recognition relations between students and teachers in Finnish music schools. The research is based on written texts by music school students. The texts are analysed for difficulties in recognition relations, namely, hindrances to recognition in music schools. In the texts, some of the respondents describe situations that can be analysed as hindrances to recognition. The author analyses four different types of recognition-related problems in the data, the main issue being a tension between caring for people (respecting them) and promoting musical values (emphasising esteem). El presente trabajo analiza los tres dramas de la honra conyugal de Calderón de la Barca (a saber, El médico de su honra, A secreto agravio secreta venganza y El pintor de su deshonra) desde los postulados del antropólogo cultural Réné Girard. Las principales teorías de este autor difícilmente clasificable versan sobre el deseo y la violencia pero nacen y han sido aplicadas, básicamente, en el ámbito de los textos literarios canónicos.
