Suprachoroidal hemorrhage (SCH) is a rare, but potentially vision-threatening event with poor long-term visual prognosis. At present, there is disagreement whether surgical intervention or conservative treatment is superior in the management. We report on a case of spontaneous resolution of severe SCH after needling procedure in the only eye of a young patient with congenital glaucoma.A 43-year-old woman with congenital glaucoma was scheduled for bleb needling in her only eye. Effects of Early Postfiltration Ocular Hypotony on Visual Acuity, Long-term Intraocular Pressure Control, and Posterior Segment Morphology

Purpose To determine whether hypotony after filtration surgery has any influence on visual acuity and intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering. Patients and methods We prospectively investigated 43 eyes of 43 patients undergoing trabeculectomy without the use of antimetabolites for 12 months. Results The lowest postoperative IOP valued 4.9 +/- 3.6 mm Hg (range, 0-14 mm Hg). It correlated statistically significant with the IOP 6 weeks (P = 0.016), 6 months (P = 0.009), and 1 year after surgery (P = 0.027). Purpose To determine the general population's knowledge about glaucoma. Materials and methods A representative survey of the German population was conducted in which 2,742 men and women were interviewed face to face. The sample was matched with the German population for age, sex, education, income, and other factors. Questions were asked concerning the nature, occurrence, possible risk factors, and course of glaucoma. Results Fifty-one percent of the population had an active knowledge of the term "glaucoma" and 75% had a passive knowledge of the term. The aim of this study was to show that complex antibody patterns against retinal antigens in sera of patients with glaucoma, found in previous studies, are autoantibodies against human antigens.Sera of 179 patients were collected at the Department of Ophthalmology (University of Mainz, Germany): non-glaucomatous control patients (n=45), primary open-angle glaucoma (n=45), ocular hypertension (n=44), and normal tension glaucoma patients (n=45). Combined procedure for glaucoma and cataract: A retrospective study

Abstract To ascertain the long-term effects of a triple procedure in the case of coexisting cataract and glaucoma, we did a retrospective study of 93 eyes that had cataract extraction, IOL implantation, and trabeculectomy within a ten-year period. Mean follow-up was 32.4 ± 21.9 months. Mean postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) was significantly lower than preoperatively, even though fewer medications were being used. One year after surgery, 60% of eyes had a best corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or better with an average improvement of 3.8 Snellen lines. Prevalence of glaucoma and distribution of intraocular pressure in a population. The Casteldaccia Eye Study.

IOP was measured in 1062 middle-aged and elderly subjects of a small Sicilian town, enrolled in a population based survey. The mean IOP was 15.1 +/- 3.7 mmHg without interocular or sex differences. A small but significant age-dependent increase of IOP was found. Circadian and seasonal influences were recorded: IOP was higher in the morning and in winter. The prevalence of chronic open-angle glaucoma was 1.2%, but it grew to 3.6 if only subjects aged 70 years or more were considered. IOP of 24 mmHg or more was found in 2.7%, while 4.3% of subjects showed IOP of 21 mmHg or more.
