Community-based Immunization Strategies for Epidemic Control

2014

Understanding the epidemic dynamics, and finding out efficient techniques to control it, is a challenging issue. A lot of research has been done on targeted immunization strategies, exploiting various global network topological properties. However, in practice, information about the global structure of the contact network may not be available. Therefore, immunization strategies that can deal with a limited knowledge of the network structure are required. In this paper, we propose targeted immunization strategies that require information only at the community level. Results of our investigations on the SIR epidemiological model, using a realistic synthetic benchmark with controlled community…

The assemblage of culture-led policies in small towns and rural communities

2019

Abstract The mobile global discourse on culture’s prominent role in driving development policies is increasingly influencing small cities and rural communities. Global networks of information and ideas flow through space and become reconstructed as place-based and territorial narratives or policy assemblages; meanwhile, communities are increasingly producing local policies within these networks. The policy mobility literature has been occupied with perspectives on how to follow policies; it has only to a limited degree addressed empirical questions about how such policies are constructed from a situated perspective. Therefore, an analytical approach is needed to analyze the empirical constr…

Suppliers and Strategies for Upgrading in Global Production Networks: The Case of a Supplier to the Global Automotive Industry in a High-cost Location

2009

The paper analyses the possibilities for a Norwegian supplier incorporated into global production networks in the automotive industry to perform knowledge upgrading and innovation activity. A consistent finding is that different departments of the supplier are parts of different types of global network. The serial production of the supplier is distinguished by quasi-hierarchical governance by customers and by lean forms of work organization in the production that stimulate continuous, incremental upgrading of the production process. The development department has network relations with customers and learning forms of work organization, which triggers production and functional upgrading. The…
