Aims Explore the efficacy, safety and tolerability of the dual sodium-glucose cotransporter (SGLT) 1 and 2 inhibitor, licogliflozin in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and heart failure. Isoprenylhydroquinone glucoside: a new non-antioxidant inhibitor of peroxynitrite-mediated tyrosine nitration

Abstract Three hydroquinone glucosides and four caffeoylquinic esters were examined for their effect on tyrosine nitration, as well as on the oxidation of dihydrorhodamine (DHR) 123 and cytochrome c 2+ induced by peroxynitrite. All these phenolics, which had previously been characterized as the active principles of the plant Phagnalon rupestre , were fairly active in preventing the oxidation of DHR 123, though inefficient in the cytochrome c test. Influence of fruit canopy position and maturity on yield determinants and chemical composition of virgin olive oil

Background While both maturity and light exposure are important factors determining olive fruit physiology, the relationship between maturity, canopy position and optimal harvesting time has not been well-studied. To understand the interaction of these factors, olive fruits from upper and lower layers of the canopy were harvested from September to January. Maturity, moisture and fat content of the fruit as well as the quality and minor components of the oil extracted were measured. Penetration enhancer containing vesicles as carriers for dermal delivery of tretinoin.

The ability of a recently developed novel class of liposomes to promote dermal delivery of tretinoin (TRA) was evaluated. New penetration enhancer-containing vesicles (PEVs) were prepared adding to conventional phosphatidylcholine vesicles (control liposomes) different hydrophilic penetration enhancers: Oramix® NS10 (OrNS10), Labrasol® (Lab), Transcutol® P (Trc), and propylene glycol (PG). Different Sorption Behaviors for Wine Polyphenols in Contact with Oak Wood

The evolution of polyphenols of enological interest- monomeric anthocyanins, (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin, gallic acid, and trans-resveratrol-in the presence of oak wood was investigated in aging-model conditions. Disappearance kinetics showed that, except for gallic acid, all of the wine polyphenols tend to disappear from the model wine in presence of oak wood, to reach an equilibrium after 20 days of contact. At equilibrium, the higher disappearance rates were obtained for monomeric anthocyanins and trans-resveratrol with values of 20 and 50%, respectively. Fifty lactobacilli isolated from black table olive brines were evaluated for their salt tolerance, resistance to oleuropein and verbascoside, and ability to grow in modified filter-sterilized brines. A strain of Lactobacillus pentosus was selected and used as a starter to ferment, in pilot plant, black olives (Itrana and Leccino cv.) in brines modified for pH, carbohydrate, and growth factor concentrations, at 28 degrees C. Identification of the plant compound geraniin as a novel Hsp90 inhibitor

Besides its function in normal cellular growth, the molecular chaperone heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) binds to a large number of client proteins required for promoting cancer cell growth and/or survival. In an effort to discover new small molecules able to inhibit the Hsp90 ATPase and chaperoning activities, we screened, by a surface plasmon resonance assay, a small library including different plant polyphenols. Pressurized hot water extraction (PHWE) for the green recovery of bioactive compounds and steviol glycosides from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves

Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni leaves are a natural source of diterpenic glycosides, and various bioactive compounds. The objectives were to characterize antioxidants and steviol glycosides in the extracts obtained from Stevia after "green" pressurized hot water extraction (PHWE). PHWE extracts were obtained at different temperatures (100, 130, 160 °C); static extraction times (5 and 10 min), and cycle numbers (1, 2, 3) using a constant pressure of 10.34 MPa. Glucosylation of isatin-3-oxime followed by 2D in situ NMR in plant cells at highest magnetic field without labelling.

The glucosylation of isatin-3-oxime (1) was monitored by in situ 2D 1H-13C inverse correlated gradient assisted NMR spectroscopy in plant cell suspension cultures of Rauvolfia serpentina without labelling. The applied high magnetic field of 800 MHz allowed measurements within 20 min at concentrations of 1 of 5.76 mM. Complete glucosylation of 1 occurs inside the cells within 72 hours. During this time isatin-3-oxime-glucoside (2) accumulates without further metabolism.
