In vitro study of N-succinyl chitosan for targeted delivery of 5-aminosalicylic acid to colon

In vitro study on N-succinyl chitosan and chitosan (control) matrices for selective colon delivery of 5-aminosalicylic acid is described. Matrices containing β-cyclodextrin were also prepared. As shown by DSC analyses, the drug was successfully loaded into the matrices reaching up to 95% entrapment efficiency. Swelling and drug release were studied at pH 1.2, pH 7.4, and in a pH gradient medium to simulate the gastro-intestinal transit. Weight Adaptation Stability of Linear and Higher-Order Neural Units for Prediction Applications

This paper is focused on weight adaptation stability analysis of static and dynamic neural units for prediction applications. The aim of this paper is to provide verifiable conditions in which the weight system is stable during sample-by-sample adaptation. The paper presents a novel approach toward stability of linear and higher-order neural units. A study of utilization of linear and higher-order neural units with the foundations on stability of the gradient descent algorithm for static and dynamic models is addressed.

Photophysical Properties of Charged Cyclometalated Ir(III) Complexes: A Joint Theoretical and Experimental Study

The photophysical properties of a series of charged biscyclometalated [Ir(ppy)(2)(N boolean AND N)](1+) complexes, where ppyH is 2-phenylpyridine and N boolean AND N is 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy), 6-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridine (pbpy), and 6,6'-dipheny1-2,2'-bipyridine (dpbpy) for complexes 1, 2, and 3, respectively, have been investigated in detail. The photoluminescence performance in solution decreases from 1 to 3 upon attachment of phenyl groups to the ancillary ligand. The absorption spectra recorded over time suggest that complex 3 is less stable compared to complexes 1 and 2 likely due to a nucleophilic-assisted ancillary ligand-exchange reaction. Helium isotope systematics of volcanic gases and thermal waters of Guadeloupe Island, Lesser Antilles

Abstract The island of Guadeloupe is located in the middle of the 850 km long Lesser Antilles island arc. Present-day volcanic and geothermal activity is concentrated in two systems both located in the southwestern part of the island (Basse Terre): the La Soufriere volcanic complex and the Bouillante hydrothermal system, some 20 km to the northwest of the volcano. We report here the largest isotopic data set for helium isotopes in hydrothermal gases and waters from both systems, acquired between 1980 and 2012. 3 He/ 4 He ratios in the fumarolic gases of La Soufriere volcano have been quite homogeneous and stable over the last thirty years. The goal of this work is to study how the reliability of inverse model depends on a few basic parameters, as the combination of potential spacing and dipolar distance and, consequently, the number of measurements and of current dipoles, considering also how error affects inversion. Tracking of repolarization instabilities in the ECG, such as T-wave alternans (TWA), has become a popular non-invasive method to assess the vulnerability to malignant arrhythmic events. These instabilities are usually characterized by small amplitude changes and their measurement is difficult due to the presence of noise and artifacts. Increasing voltage gradient electrophoresis of DNA

We developed a method which allows electrophoretic fractionation of DNA in an agarose matrix according to an increasing current gradient, using a previously designed [R. Barbieri, V. Izzo, M.A. Costa, G. Giudice, G. Duro, Anal. Biochem. 212 (1993) 168; M.R. Asaro, V. Izzo, R. Barbieri, J. Chromatogr. A 855 (1999) 723] voltage gradient apparatus. This method allows the separation of different DNA fragments by increasing the distances of the components fractionated in the gel, revealing small differences in the length of different DNA components.
