Tampereen kaupunki on asettanut vireille Santalahden entistä teollisuusaluetta koskevan asemakaavan muutoksen. Kaupunki pyrkii muuttamaan joutomaan viihtyisäksi asuinalueeksi. Santalahden on katsottu rakennusperintönsä ja teollisuushistoriansa vuoksi olevan arvokas kulttuuriympäristö, joka halutaan säilyttää kaavassa fragmentteina. Teollisuushistorian lisäksi alueella esiintyy valtava määrä graffititaidetta ja graffitikulttuurin ympärille muodostunutta toimintaa (Pispalan feimi). Tutkimukseni käsittelee kuopiolaista graffitia ja sen ilmenemismuotoja Kuopiossa. Lähestyn graffitia paikan ja teoksen näkökulmista. Selvitän, mitä paikat merkitsevät graffitille, ja miten ne vaikuttavat sen luonteeseen. Tarkastelen alueen graffitimaalausten tyylillisiä ratkaisuja etsien viitteitä vaikutteista tai teosten kuulumisesta tiettyihin graffitimaalauksen tyylisuuntiin. Tutkimukseni taustalla on ajatus alueen graffitin perifeerisestä luonteesta, ja sen mahdollisesta ilmenemisestä omalaatuisena ilmaisuna tai graffitiin liittyvän koodiston poikkeavuuksina. Graffiti can be viewed as stories about embodied identities of the self and others which can be shared in intersubjective discourse, visual communication of varying content and motives, and utilizing specific technology and mediums. Graffiti’s palimpestuous nature, in its physical and symbolic forms of layering information, is present in production and perceiving graffiti. Empathy in Technology Design and Graffiti

This paper discusses empathic understanding, what it means, and how it can be acquired. After an overview of some theories and models from the existing literature, two experiments are presented, where participants were assessing graffiti works. From the results of these experiments, it can be concluded that empathic understanding involves both embodied processes and abstract inferences. Furthermore, understanding can be based on perceived, mechanistic bodily similarities and movements or on folk-psychological inferences mentalized between the observer/empathizer and an object/empathized. Jyväskylässä kesällä 2015 toteutetun Kaupunkikerroin – tapahtumakokonaisuuden yhteydessä maalattiin kuuteen Jyväskylän Energian omistuksessa olevaan sähkömuuntamoon katutaideteokset. Yksi teoksista toteutettiin nimettömänä graffitina, nimimerkillä Super Best Friends . Maisteritutkielman tavoitteena oli selvittää tämän graffititeoksen positiota julkisen taiteen kontekstissa. Tutkielmassa kaupunkitila käsitettiin osana urbaania kulttuuriympäristöä. Yhteiskunnan valtarakenteiden ja sitä vastaan nousevan vastarinnan välinen kamppailu esitettiin kaupunkitilan fyysisen, mutta myös symbolisen valtaamisen näkökulmasta. To do so, we collected a corpus of a thousand institutional, businessrelated or personal messages from the sidewalk.
