Aarne Mäkelä tutki väitöstyössään peruskoulun johtamista ja rehtorin tehtäviä. Tutkimus osoitti, että rehtorin tehtävät ovat muuttumassa. - Pitkän johtajakokemukseni aikana olen tunnistanut, että johtaminen on muuttunut, mutta muutoksen voimakkuus oli yllättävää. Erityisesti koulun selkärankana pidetyn pedagogisen johtamisen tehtäväalueen vähäinen osuus huolestuttaa, toteaa Mäkelä. Mäkelä osoitti, että nykyään rehtori joutuu entistä enemmän hoitamaan koulun yhteistyöverkostoihin liittyviä tehtäviä. The diversity of people, cultures and social situations in Latin America countries does not obstruct the critical and honest dialogue concerning the research carried out on the learning of world problems. Geography, as a science, can contribute to this challenge, but it needs, then, to leave the intellectual, corporate and academic obstacles that prevent its study by the pupils. In this work we communicate the initiatives developed by a group of teachers by means of the Geoforo, which takes advantage of the facilities of the cyberspace, from the Geocrítica portal of the University of Barcelona.

The use of very high resolution images for studying Posidonia oceanica reefs

Posidonia oceanica is an endemic Mediterranean seagrass that forms wide and dense meadows from the surface up to about 40 m depth. This species can develop a biogenic structure called matte, a typical terraced formation built up by itself, consisting of intertwined rhizomes, roots and sediment, which may allow shoots to reach the sea surface forming reefs (récif barrière), considered natural monuments. Posidonia oceanica reefs are particularly exposed to the ongoing increase in temperature and in storm frequency and intensity due to climate change, with negative repercussions on their conservation. Analysis of microtomographic images of porous heterogeneous materials

In this work, we study the phases of image processing chain of microtomographic imag- ing in order to obtain reliable results while optimizing the time spent on denoising and segmentation. We consider that the decisions made at the early phases of the processing chain are most important and the selection made there essentially determine the overall quality of imaging process. We also compare here various denoising method qualita- tively, however, we think that the pure noise removal ability is not the only requirement for noise removal in microtomographic images.
