Rapporti di reggenza? Una descrizione ambivalente nella tradizione grammaticale tardoantica e medioevale
2023
This study aims to shed light on the historical development of a linguistic theory with reference to syntax in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, through an investigation of grammatical works related to Donatus, since a reflection on syntax emerges from the commentaries and from other grammatical works connected with his artes. This investigation focuses on the description of the government relation between praepositio and casus, through a preliminary collection of the occurrences of both terms with the Cross Database Searchtool of Brepols Publishers as a digital tool, and based on a textual analysis of the de praepositione sections included in a selection of grammatical works ranging from…
Kone ja automaatti
2011
Literary Machines and Automata: Feedbacking Poetics The article discusses the concepts of “machine”, “automatic”, and “feedback loop” as literary and poetic ideas from the terminological, historical, and contemporary perspectives. All of them can be seen as somewhat paradoxical terms, carrying human and organic connotations with them. The key phenomenon of this article is the generator, a machine or system that produces – generates – text. The history of poetic automata extends well beyond the Internet, computer, or even electricity. The article illustrates its claims with examples of poetry generators, from a combinatory poem of the Baroque era to a few Finnish contemporary digital works. …
2015
The Razos de trobar are revisited in this paper, with a recapitulation of the learned opinions on this text’s subject, and a new evaluation of it as a grammar handbook for troubadours. Characteristics are set down which differentiate this work from others like Uc Faidit’s Donatz proensals and Jofre de Foixa’s Regles de trobar . Attention is also given to the possible reasons for this text’s popularity, and on the way, Ovidian sources are retraced for the famous final lines (37-39) of Arnaut Daniel’s “Ab gai so cundet et leri”: “Ieu sui Arnautz qu’amas l’aura...”
Effect of serotonin and calcium in normal and sensitized guinea pig isolated trachea
1996
Tracheal strips from normal and actively sensitized guinea pigs were studied to determine the responses to serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT ; 1 nM - 0.1 mM) and ouabain (0.1 μM - 0.1 mM), and the effects of increasing the extracellular calcium (Ca o ) concentration on tonic contractions elicited by 5-HT. Sensitized trachea exhibited an increased responsiveness and sensitivity to 5-HT and ouabain. Increases in Ca o to achieve final concentrations of 5, 10 and 20 mM caused concentration-related relaxations of normal and sensitized tissues contracted to a similar plateau level with 5-HT. Inhibition of the Na + /K + -ATPase by ouabain (10 μM) reversed the effects of Ca o from relaxation to …
Generating Hyperspectral Skin Cancer Imagery using Generative Adversarial Neural Network
2020
In this study we develop a proof of concept of using generative adversarial neural networks in hyperspectral skin cancer imagery production. Generative adversarial neural network is a neural network, where two neural networks compete. The generator tries to produce data that is similar to the measured data, and the discriminator tries to correctly classify the data as fake or real. This is a reinforcement learning model, where both models get reinforcement based on their performance. In the training of the discriminator we use data measured from skin cancer patients. The aim for the study is to develop a generator for augmenting hyperspectral skin cancer imagery. peerReviewed
Effectual tactics in digital intrapreneurship: A process model
2020
Abstract Uncertainty and the pursuit of new ventures are intricately linked. Digital technologies open up new ways for uncertainty handling in the pursuit of novelty. In this paper, we develop a process model that traces the dynamics among uncertainty, digitally enabled tactics, and organizational novelty. The model points to the potential of technologies that are evocative, disposable, and responsive for venturing in complex, uncertainty-ridden contexts. Our research builds on extant conceptualizations of complexity in innovation journeys, in conjunction with perspectives on effectual entrepreneurial tactics. Empirically, we investigate uncertainty handling through a longitudinal case stud…
Adrenoceptor-mediated changes of action potential and force of contraction in human isolated ventricular heart muscle.
1988
Abstract 1. The effects of alpha-adrenoceptor stimulation on the action potential and force of contraction were investigated in human isolated ventricular heart muscle and compared with those of beta-adrenoceptor stimulation. 2. The maximal stimulation by isoprenaline of beta-adrenoceptors produced large changes in the force of contraction, which were accompanied by moderate increases in the height of the action potential. The maximal inotropic effect produced by stimulation of alpha-adrenoceptors with phenylephrine, in the presence of propranolol (1 mumol 1(-1)) was much smaller (about 10% of that seen in response to beta-adrenoceptor stimulation), and no significant changes of the action …
Differential electrophysiologic and inotropic effects of phenylephrine in atrial and ventricular heart muscle preparations from rats.
1991
Stimulation of alpha 1-adrenoceptors evokes a different pattern of inotropic responses in atrial and ventricular heart muscle preparations from rats. The inotropic effects are accompanied by different changes in membrane potential. In an attempt to clarify the question whether or to which extent these events are causally related, the effects of phenylephrine on force of contraction, transmembrane potential, Ca2+ current (ICa) and K+ currents were comparatively studied in either tissue. In atrial preparations, phenylephrine 10 mumol/l caused an increase in force of contraction, a marked prolongation of the action potential duration and a depolarization of the membrane at rest. In the ventric…
cGMP-Dependent Protein Kinase I Mediates the Negative Inotropic Effect of cGMP in the Murine Myocardium
2002
To study the role of cGMP-dependent protein kinase I (cGKI) for cardiac contractility, force of contraction (F c ) was studied in electrically driven heart muscle from wild-type (WT) mice and from conventional and conditional cGKI knockout mice. Both 8-Br-cGMP and 8-pCPT-cGMP reduced Fc in cardiac muscle from juvenile WT but not from juvenile cGKI-null mutants. Similarly, the cGMP analogues reduced F c in forskolin-stimulated ventricular muscle from WT mice but not from cGKI-null mutants. In contrast, carbachol reduced F c in both groups of animals. 8-Br-cGMP reduced F c also in heart muscle from adult WT mice but not from adult cardiomyocyte-specific cGKI-knockout mice. These results demo…
