Osseointegration is a dynamic process during its establishment and maintenance, characterized by resorption and apposition events, and the extent and degree of osseointegration is in part affected by implant surface configuration. eRI-mediated exocytosis of preformed mediators from mast cells and basophils (e.g. histamine, serotonin, beta-hexosaminidase) is sensitive to the immunosuppressants cyclosporin A and FK506 (IC 50 200 and 4 n M , respectively) but not rapamycin. The mechanism of inhibition does not appear to involve tyrosine phosphorylation, hydrolysis of inositol phosphates or calcium flux. Single-staged laryngotracheal reconstruction for idiopathic tracheal stenosis.

Background This study retrospectively evaluated the results of surgically treated idiopathic tracheal stenosis. Methods Of the 220 patients surgically treated for idiopathic subglottic and tracheal stenosis in the participating hospitals, we reviewed the surgical records of all patients with idiopathic tracheal stenosis. This subgroup required resection of all of the involved mucosa but frequently had undergone more conservative treatments that damaged the tracheal mucosa and cartilage and complicated the definitive surgical treatment. Activation of Mast Cells by Streptolysin O and Lipopolysaccharide

This chapter provides protocols to measure the reversible permeabilization of mast cells by streptolysin O (SLO) and to follow SLO-induced activation of mast cells by monitoring degranulation, activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases, and production of tumor necrosis factor-alpha. A method that uses SLO to deliver molecules into the cytosol of living cells also is described. Furthermore, we outline a procedure to measure the activation of nuclear factor-kappaB by lipopolysaccharide and ionomycin using transfection of mast cells with reporter genes by electroporation. These protocols should be widely applicable in mast cell research.

There are conflicting reports concerning the tissue reaction of small animals to porcine-based, non-cross-linked collagen I-III membranes/matrices for use in guided tissue/bone regeneration. The paper focused on the evolution of extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) content during the granulation process in two Granular Sequencing Batch Airlift Reactors (GSBAR) (3,5 L) fed with synthetic and industrial wastewater. Results showed that EPSs, in particular proteins (PN) were mainly produced during the feast phase because of high substrate availability, especially under conditions of metabolic stress. Than EPSs content reduced during the famine period.
