Characterization ofE′δand triplet point defects in oxygen-deficient amorphous silicon dioxide

2006

We report an experimental study by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray irradiation induced point defects in oxygen deficient amorphous $\mathrm{Si}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ materials. We have found that three intrinsic ($\mathrm{E}^{\ensuremath{'}}{}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}$, $\mathrm{E}^{\ensuremath{'}}{}_{\ensuremath{\delta}}$, and triplet) and one extrinsic $({[\mathrm{Al}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}]}^{0})$ paramagnetic centers are induced. All the paramagnetic defects but $\mathrm{E}^{\ensuremath{'}}{}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}$ center are found to reach a concentration limit value for doses above ${10}^{3}\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{kGy}$, suggesting a generation process f…

Berry-curvatures and anomalous Hall effect in Heusler compounds

2011

Berry curvatures are computed for a set of Heusler compounds using density functional calculations and the wave functions that they provide. The anomalous Hall conductivity is obtained from the Berry curvatures. It is compared with experimental values in the case of Co${}_{2}$CrAl and Co${}_{2}$MnAl. A notable trend cannot be seen but the range of values is quite enormous. The results for the anomalous Hall conductivities and their large variations as well as the degree of the spin polarization of the Hall current can be qualitatively understood by means of the band structure and the Fermi-surface topology.

Controlling spatial inhomogeneity in prototypical multiphase microstructures

2017

A wide variety of real random composites can be studied by means of prototypes of multiphase microstructures with a controllable spatial inhomogeneity. To create them, we propose a versatile model of randomly overlapping super-spheres of a given radius and deformed in their shape by the parameter p. With the help of the so-called decomposable entropic measure, a clear dependence of the phase inhomogeneity degree on the values of the parameter p is found. Thus, a leading trend in changes of the phase inhomogeneity can be forecast. It makes searching for possible structure/property relations easier. For the chosen values of p, examples of two and three-phase prototypical microstructures show …

Shape of cross-over between mean-field and asymptotic critical behavior three-dimensional Ising lattice

1999

Abstract Recent numerical studies of the susceptibility of the three-dimensional Ising model with various interaction ranges have been analyzed with a cross-over model based on renormalization-group matching theory. It is shown that the model yields an accurate description of the cross-over function for the susceptibility.

Feynman graph polynomials

2010

The integrand of any multi-loop integral is characterised after Feynman parametrisation by two polynomials. In this review we summarise the properties of these polynomials. Topics covered in this article include among others: Spanning trees and spanning forests, the all-minors matrix-tree theorem, recursion relations due to contraction and deletion of edges, Dodgson's identity and matroids.

An educational path for the magnetic vector potential and its physical implications

2013

We present an educational path for the magnetic vector potential A aimed at undergraduate students and pre-service physics teachers. Starting from the generalized Ampere–Laplace law, in the framework of a slowly varying time-dependent field approximation, the magnetic vector potential is written in terms of its empirical references, i.e. the conduction currents. Therefore, once the currents are known, our approach allows for a clear and univocal physical determination of A, overcoming the mathematical indeterminacy due to the gauge transformations. We have no need to fix a gauge, since for slowly varying time-dependent electric and magnetic fields, the ‘natural’ gauge for A is the Coulomb o…

Improved test of time dilation in special relativity.

2003

An improved test of time dilation in special relativity has been performed using laser spectroscopy on fast ions at the heavy-ion storage-ring TSR in Heidelberg. The Doppler-shifted frequencies of a two-level transition in 7 Li + ions at v = 0.064c have been measured in the forward and backward direction to an accuracy of Δν/ν = 1 × 10 - 9 using collinear saturation spectroscopy. The result confirms the relativistic Doppler formula and sets a new limit of 2.2 × 10 - 7 for deviations from the time dilation factor γ S R = (1 - ν 2 /c 2 ) - 1 / 2 .

Star Products on Coadjoint Orbits

2000

We study properties of a family of algebraic star products defined on coadjoint orbits of semisimple Lie groups. We connect this description with the point of view of differentiable deformations and geometric quantization.

Observation of TeV gamma-rays from the unidentified source HESS J1841-055 with the ARGO-YBJ experiment

2013

We report the observation of a very high energy \gamma-ray source, whose position is coincident with HESS J1841-055. This source has been observed for 4.5 years by the ARGO-YBJ experiment from November 2007 to July 2012. Its emission is detected with a statistical significance of 5.3 standard deviations. Parameterizing the source shape with a two-dimensional Gaussian function we estimate an extension \sigma=(0.40(+0.32,-0.22}) degree, consistent with the HESS measurement. The observed energy spectrum is dN/dE =(9.0-+1.6) x 10^{-13}(E/5 TeV)^{-2.32-+0.23} photons cm^{-2} s^{-1} TeV^{-1}, in the energy range 0.9-50 TeV. The integral \gamma-ray flux above 1 TeV is 1.3-+0.4 Crab units, which is…

Excitation spectra of solitary waves in scalar field models with polynomial self-interaction

2016

We study excitations of solitary waves -- the kinks -- in scalar models with degree eight polynomial self-interaction in (1+1) dimensions. We perform numerical studies of scattering of two kinks with an exponential asymptotic off each other and analyse the occurring resonance phenomena. We connect these phenomena to the energy exchange between the translational and the vibrational modes of the colliding kinks. We also point out that the interaction of two kinks with power-law asymptotic can lead to a long-range interaction between the two kinks.
