The pulsations of the B5IVe star HD 181231 observed with CoRoT and ground-based spectroscopy

International audience; Context: HD 181231 is a B5IVe star, which has been observed with the CoRoT satellite during ~5 consecutive months and simultaneously from the ground in spectroscopy and spectropolarimetry. Aims: By analysing these data, we aim to detect and characterize as many pulsation frequencies as possible, to search for the presence of beating effects possibly at the origin of the Be phenomenon. Our results will also provide a basis for seismic modelling. Methods: The fundamental parameters of the star are determined from spectral fitting and from the study of the circumstellar emission. Comments on the dispersion relation method to vector–vector interaction

We study in detail the method proposed recently to study the vector-vector interaction using the $N/D$ method and dispersion relations, which concludes that, while for $J=0$, one finds bound states, in the case of $J=2$, where the interaction is also attractive and much stronger, no bound state is found. In that work, approximations are done for $N$ and $D$ and a subtracted dispersion relation for $D$ is used, with subtractions made up to a polynomial of second degree in $s-s_\mathrm{th}$, matching the expression to $1-VG$ at threshold. Projections and isolated points of parts of the spectrum

‎‎In this paper‎, ‎we relate the existence of certain projections‎, ‎commuting with a bounded linear operator $T\in L(X)$ acting on Banach space $X$‎, ‎with the generalized Kato decomposition of $T$‎. ‎We also relate the existence of these projections with some properties of the quasi-nilpotent part $H_0(T)$ and the analytic core $K(T)$‎. ‎Further results are given for the isolated points of some parts of the spectrum‎.

Integrability of J f and 1∕J f

In this chapter we study the optimal degree of integrability of J f and 1∕J f for mappings of finite distortion. As an application of our estimates we show that some sets are removable singularities for mappings with exponentially integrable distortion.

Closedness of Star Products and Cohomologies

We first review the introduction of star products in connection with deformations of Poisson brackets and the various cohomologies that are related to them. Then we concentrate on what we have called “closed star products” and their relations with cyclic cohomology and index theorems. Finally we shall explain how quantum groups, especially in their recent topological form, are in essence examples of star products.

On reference star recognition and identification

The paper deals with a research in the area of automation of positional star observations. In order to fully employ recent progress in imaging technologies, star image recognition and reference star identification process should gain comparable level of automation. A software package for this purpose has been developed in the Institute of Geodesy of the University of Latvia. It is capable of near-real-time image processing, star identification and astrometric position determination.

Star polymers confined in a nanoslit: a simulation test of scaling and self-consistent field theories

The free energy cost of confining a star polymer where f flexible polymer chains containing N monomeric units are tethered to a central unit in a slit with two parallel repulsive walls a distance D apart is considered, for good solvent conditions. Also the parallel and perpendicular components of the gyration radius of the star polymer, and the monomer density profile across the slit are obtained. The escape transition of a compressed star polymer: Self-consistent field predictions tested by simulation

The escape transition of a polymer "mushroom" (a flexible chain grafted to a flat non-adsorbing substrate surface in a good solvent) occurs when the polymer is compressed by a cylindrical piston of radius $R$, that by far exceeds the chain gyration radius. At this transition, the chain conformation abruptly changes from a two-dimensional self-avoiding walk of blobs (of diameter $H$, the height of the piston above the substrate) to a "flower conformation", i.e. stretched almost one-dimensional string of blobs (with end-to-end distance $\approx R$) and an "escaped" part of the chain, the "crown", outside the piston.
