Very peculiar wind from BD+53°2790, the optical counterpart to 4U 2206+54

BD+53 2790, an O9.5Vp star, is the optical counterpart to the HMXRB 4U 2206+54. This system was classified initially as a BeX, but observational evidence soon stressed the need to revise this classification. The permanent asymmetry in the H-alpha line profiles (in contrast with the cyclic variations shown by Be stars), the variations in the profile of this line in time scales of hours (while time scales from weeks to months are expected in Be stars), and the lack of correlation between IR observables and H-alpha line parameters, strongly suggest that, while BD+53 2790 contains a circunstellar disc, it is not like the one present in Be stars. Confronting the impact parameter dependent JIMWLK evolution with HERA data

The small-$x$ evolution of protons is determined from numerical solutions of the JIMWLK equations, starting from an initial condition at moderate $x$ for a finite size proton. The resulting dipole amplitude is used to calculate the total reduced cross section $\sigma_r$ and charm reduced cross section $\sigma_{rc}$, as well as diffractive vector meson production. We compare results to experimental data from HERA and discuss fundamental problems arising from the regime sensitive to non-perturbative physics. Topologies on Partial O*-Algebras

In this chapter, we introduce some basic locally convex topologies on partial O*-algebras and we establish general properties of these topologies. In Section 4.1, we compare the graph topologies induced by different O-families on the same domain (and the corresponding families of bounded subsets). In the case where the domain D M of an O-family M is a (quasi-) Frechet space, the structure of bounded subsets in D M can be described in a rather explicit way. Statistical Modeling for the Flow of Short Fibers Composites

Numerical results are given for the flow of fiber composites modelled as suspensions of non spherical particles. In this framework, because the many particles rotate, their state of orientation is described with a statistical approach. We used these methods to compute coupled solutions in which the orientation of the particles is affected by the flow and the flow itself depends on the orientation of the particles. The computation methods involve an augmented lagrangian approach and a streamline upwind petrov galerkin formulation to solve the convective orientation equation.

In pattern recognition, the choice of features to be detected is a critical factor to determine the success or failure of a method; much research has gone into finding the best features for particular tasks [1]. When images are detected by digital cameras, they are usually acquired as rectangular arrays of pixels, so the initial features are pixel values. Some methods use those pixel values directly for processing, for instance in normal matched filtering [2], whereas other methods execute some degree of pre-processing, such as binarizing the pixel values [3].

This work describes a method used to recognize a person situated in indoor environments. It estimates the direction in which the person is turned. The position coordinates are known to the system thanks to localization techniques that use Bluetooth technology. The utilization of such information in intelligent environments allows the execution of actions that interact with the customer. Uniform estimates for the X-ray transform restricted to polynomial curves

We establish near-optimal mixed-norm estimates for the X-ray transform restricted to polynomial curves with a weight that is a power of the affine arclength. The bounds that we establish depend only on the spatial dimension and the degree of the polynomial. Some of our results are new even in the well-curved case.

A new constructive method using the theory of invariants to obtain material behavior laws

International audience; The aim of this paper is to present a constructive method to derive mechanical behavior laws using the Theory of Invariants and Continuum Thermodynamics. More precisely, we want to construct, in a general way, the state or dissipation potential in a polynomial form given a set of variables V and the material symmetry group S. For this purpose, we show how to obtain a set of generators for the S-invariant polynomials of V. Then, using the Grœbner basis concept, we write all the decompositions of a polynomial of a given degree.
