Well-being and demographic dynamics

This paper presents a socio-demographic model defined by sexes and structured by age. The model is a von Foerster-McKendrick model for the dynamics of population by sex and age of a general human population. The fertility and deaths rates are structured by age and they depend on the well-being variable. The well-being variable is defined by UN, HDI-Hybrid. We present the validation of the stochastic formulation model from the case of Spain in the period 2003–2008.

The complex of ‘Abd al-Samid at Natanz, (end of the first decade of the 14th century) includes several buildings: a four-iwan mosque, an octagonal sanctuary, a minaret, and a mosque from the 1930s fronted by a fourteenth-century portal (pīshṭāq). The portal, the only remains of a khanqah, occupies the western end of the southern façade. It takes the form of an iwan, covered in a rich variety of patterns of colourful glazed tile and unglazed carved terracotta. It is adorned by a majestic muqarnas vault of six rows ending at the top with a starry motif. This paper aims to carry out an archaeometric characterization of mortar samples taken from an underwater environment. The fishpond of the archaeological site of Castrum Novum (Santa Marinella, Rome, Italy) was chosen as a pilot site for experimentation. The masonry structures reached the maximum thickness at the apex of the fishpond (4.70 m) and consisted of a concrete conglomerate composed of slightly rough stones of medium size bound with non-hydraulic mortar. The graphic analysis, as Giuseppe Pagnano stated with great clarity in 1975, allows us to fully explore aspects that verbal language can only touch; it does not make us re-discover the rules of architecture but, as every critical operation, makes us understand which rules the architect used and above all it makes us understand why he formulated certain solutions rather than others.
