Działalność Zagranicznego Komitetu Odbudowy Zamku Królewskiego w Warszawie (1967–1972)

2018

Zdecydowana większość emigracyjnych elit politycznych zajęła negatywne stanowisko w sprawie zbiórki pieniędzy na restytucję Zamku Królewskiego w Warszawie. W 1. połowie lat 70. XX w. na całym świecie działało jednak kilkadziesiąt komitetów i organizacji polonijnych wspierających ową inicjatywę, najwięcej w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Australii, we Francji i w Kanadzie.

Józef Retinger i wywiad cywilny PRL

2020

Józef Retinger is one of the most colourful, and at the same time puzzling, figures in the recent history of Poland. During the Second World War, he was a political advisor and grey eminence to the head of the Polish government, General Władysław Sikorski, and after the war he remained in exile. He was very active in promoting European unity. He founded the politically influential Bilderberg Group. He was suspected of being a British intelligence agent. He was also accused of working for the secret services of several other states, and of being a freemason. In the second half of the 1950s, the ntelligence service of the PRL took an interest in Retinger. This is a little-known episode in Ret…

National context and teacher characteristics : Exploring the critical non-cognitive attributes of novice teachers in four countries

2018

The purpose of this article was to examine what education professionals in four countries (England, Finland, Malawi, and Oman) deemed as the critical (i.e., most important for effective teaching) non-cognitive attributes of novice teachers. Results from an iterative comparative case study showed that participants consistently judged certain attributes of novice teachers as critical, i.e., empathy, organization, and resilience. However, there was also differential importance placed on teachers’ relationships with the community, reflecting theorized cultural differences. The findings provide new insight into how national and cultural context are associated with the perceptions of the critical…

Endovascular versus open surgical repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm with concomitant malignancy

2007

Background The management of patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and concurrent malignancy is controversial. This study retrospectively assessed the outcome of endovascular repair (EVAR) and open repair (OR) for the treatment of AAA in patients undergoing curative treatment for concomitant malignancies. Methods All patients who underwent surgery for a nonruptured infrarenal AAA of ≥5.5 cm and concomitant malignancy between 1997 and 2005 were retrospectively reviewed. Results Identified were 25 patients (22 men; mean age, 70.3 years) with nonruptured infrarenal AAA of ≥5.5 cm (mean size, 6.4 cm) and concomitant malignancy amenable for curative treatment. EVAR was used to treat 11 p…

Generation Z and Organizational Listening on Social Media

2020

Young people are avid users of social media and have appeared as a powerful force for social change, as shown by the ranks of those who have joined Greta Thunberg in the global climate movement. In addition to challenging political institutions and governments, young people today are also holding the corporate world accountable. To respond to young people’s expectations, brands, and organizations have turned to social media to interact and build relationships with them. However, critics have lamented that these attempts often fail and that young people’s trust in institutions, brands, and organizations continues to decline. This article asks how young people perceive organizational listenin…

A comprehensive evaluation of potential lung function associated genes in the SpiroMeta general population sample

2011

Lung function measures are heritable traits that predict population morbidity and mortality and are essential for the diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Variations in many genes have been reported to affect these traits, but attempts at replication have provided conflicting results. Recently, we undertook a meta-analysis of Genome Wide Association Study (GWAS) results for lung function measures in 20,288 individuals from the general population (the SpiroMeta consortium). OBJECTIVES: To comprehensively analyse previously reported genetic associations with lung function measures, and to investigate whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in these genomic regions…

Rosyjskie siły lądowe i flota bałtycka w 1715 i 1719 roku w świetle raportów brytyjskich

2020

Kilka z nich będzie przedmiotem analizy, a dane które można z nich odczytać będą mogły świadczyć o rozwoju carskich sił zbrojnych.
