Generation of early Archaean felsic greenstone volcanic rocks through crustal melting in the Kaapvaal, craton, southern Africa
2013
Abstract High-potassium felsic volcanic rocks interlayered with basalt and komatiite in early Archaean greenstone sequences in the Barberton Greenstone Belt of South Africa and Swaziland, previously considered to be derived from melting of mafic precursors, are shown to be the result of melting of significantly older felsic crust. This is documented by a combination of SHRIMP zircon dating with Hf-in-zircon and whole-rock Lu–Hf and Sm–Nd isotopic data. Zircons from felsic rocks of the oldest Barberton unit, the 3.53 Ga Theespruit Formation, yielded predominantly negative e Hf ( t ) -values, whereas whole-rock e Hf ( t ) - and e Nd ( t ) -data are slightly negative to slightly positive. Background levels and baseline values of available heavy metals in Mediterranean greenhouse soils (Spain)
2011
Abstract This study determines extractable levels of Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni and Co in western Almeria (Spain) greenhouse surface soil horizons using EDTA solution, which is identified as the fraction available for organisms and plants. It also establishes background levels, geochemical baseline concentration and reference values (RV), and investigates the possible relationships between soil properties and elemental concentrations. The results show that the soil concentration of these extractable heavy metals was high as those reported by other authors for Spanish agricultural soils. The available RV concentrations obtained (mg kg −1 ) were: Cd 0.17, Cu 1.6, Pb 13.8, Zn 5.0 Ni 1.7 and Co 2.9. Us…
The scenario of electric vehicles in Norway
2017
Abstract Electrical vehicle (EV) technology is widely recognized as one of most important transport measurements, as it does not emit greenhouse gases and noise while reducing the crude oil dependency. EV prices, driving range, and battery types are the main decisive challenges in EV industry. Currently, Norway is the leading country in EV by introducing economical and efficient incentives that have a direct impact on increasing the EV buying rate. The economic incentives such as exemption from vehicle taxes have reduced the EV prices. Moreover, flexible charging infrastructure has increased the battery range by establishing fast and slow charging places around the country. The EV usage is …
An integrated energy simulation and life cycle assessment to measure the operational and embodied energy of a Mediterranean net zero energy building
2022
Abstract Net Zero Energy Buildings can play a key role in reducing the energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and the use of natural resources associated to the built environment. It is widely recognized that in low energy building a shift in relevance may occur from the operational to the embodied impacts. However, building performance assessment focus mostly on the operational phase and on primary energy consumption. This study aims to assess the energy and environmental impacts of a residential net zero energy building expanding the analysis to the full life cycle and to a wide range of environmental impact categories. The methodological approach integrates a non-steady state building ener…
A bending theory of thermoelastic diffusion plates based on Green-Naghdi theory
2017
Abstract This article is concerned with bending plate theory for thermoelastic diffusion materials under Green-Naghdi theory. First, we present the basic equations which characterize the bending of thin thermoelastic diffusion plates for type II and III models. The theory allows for the effect of transverse shear deformation without any shear correction factor, and permits the propagation of waves at a finite speed without energy dissipation for type II model and with energy dissipation for type III model. By the semigroup theory of linear operators, we prove the well-posedness of the both models and the asymptotic behavior of the solutions of type III model. For unbounded plate of type III…
Über Umsetzungen an Poly-p-lithiumstyrol 2. Mitt. Derivate des poly-p-vinyl-di- und Triphenylmethans
1959
Cropland and grassland management
2014
According to the latest National Inventory, the Italian agricultural sector is a source of GHGs with 34.5 Mt of CO2 eq in 2009, corresponding to 7 % of the total emissions (excluding LULUCF). In particular, more than half (19.1 Mt of CO2 eq) are N2O emissions from soils. Although the national methodology is in accordance with Tier 1 and 2 approaches proposed by the IPCC (2006), still empirical emission factors are used to assess the emission from fertilizer (e.g. 0.0125 kg N2O–N kg−1 N from synthetic fertilizers). Disaggregated data at sub-national level, including models and inventory measurement systems required by higher order methods (i.e. Tier 3), are not available in Italy so far and …
Computation of the area in the discrete plane: Green’s theorem revisited
2017
International audience; The detection of the contour of a binary object is a common problem; however, the area of a region, and its moments, can be a significant parameter. In several metrology applications, the area of planar objects must be measured. The area is obtained by counting the pixels inside the contour or using a discrete version of Green's formula. Unfortunately, we obtain the area enclosed by the polygonal line passing through the centers of the pixels along the contour. We present a modified version of Green's theorem in the discrete plane, which allows for the computation of the exact area of a two-dimensional region in the class of polyominoes. Penalties are introduced and …
Non-Enzymatic Water-Soluble Antioxidants Bioanalysis in Some Teas and Juices by PCL Method
2011
Non-enzymatic water-soluble antioxidants from different teas (black, green, peppermint), coffee, natural extract of rosemary and fruit juices (apple, grape, grapefruit, kiwifruit) were quantized by measuring their chemiluminescence in order to establish their power to protect the living beings from the free radicals. Among the samples high values of antioxidative capacity presents green tea (655 mmol AU) (AU=ascorbic units) and kiwi fruit juice (31 mmol AU). The maximum measuring times are less than 3 minutes. The sensivity of the photo-induced chemiluminescence (PCL) method was very high: nanomolar concentrations of non-enzymatic watwer-soluble antioxidative substances, as ascorbic acid un…
Essential Oils as Natural Biocides in Conservation of Cultural Heritage
2020
Essential oils (EOs) have been known for a long time, and they are used in several fields such as medicine and aromatherapy, as well as in the food and pharmaceutical industries. In the last decade, EOs have also been applied to contrast the biodeterioration of cultural heritage, representing a powerful resource in green conservation strategies. In this study, an integrated approach based on microscopic observation, in vitro culture, and molecular investigation was preliminarily employed to identify biological systems colonizing wooden artworks. In order to contrast the biodeterioration processes induced by fungal colonization (Aspergillus flavus) or insect infestation (Anobium punctatum), …
