Fluctuating parts of nuclear ground state correlation energies

2013

Background: Heavy atomic nuclei are often described using the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) method. In principle, this approach takes into account Pauli effects and pairing correlations while other correlation effects are mimicked through the use of effective density-dependent interactions. Purpose: Investigate the influence of higher order correlation effects on nuclear binding energies using Skyrme's effective interaction. Methods: A cut-off in relative momenta is introduced in order to remove ultraviolet divergences caused by the zero-range character of the interaction. Corrections to binding energies are then calculated using the quasiparticle-random-phase approximation (QRPA) and secon…

Complex-energy approach to sum rules within nuclear density functional theory

2015

The linear response of the nucleus to an external field contains unique information about the effective interaction, correlations, and properties of its excited states. To characterize the response, it is useful to use its energy-weighted moments, or sum rules. By comparing computed sum rules with experimental values, the information content of the response can be utilized in the optimization process of the nuclear Hamiltonian or EDF. But the additional information comes at a price: compared to the ground state, computation of excited states is more demanding. To establish an efficient framework to compute sum rules of the response that is adaptable to the optimization of the nuclear EDF an…

The ground-state deformation of98Sr

1987

The half-life of the first excited state (21+) of98Sr has been determined through the measurement of delayed γ-γ coincidences at the fission product separator OSTIS to t1/2=2.74(12) ns. This value is smaller than those obtained earlier from β− — conversion electron delayed coincidences and it indicates a stronger collectivity of the 21+→01+ transition in98Sr [B(E2)=98 (3) spu] than in100Sr [B(E2)=79(3) spu] which is normally assumed to be the better rotor.

A(4)-based neutrino masses with Majoron decaying dark matter

2010

We propose an A(4) flavor-symmetric SU(3) circle times SU(2) circle times U(1) seesaw model where lepton number is broken spontaneously. A consistent two-zero texture pattern of neutrino masses and mixing emerges from the interplay of type-I and type-II seesaw contributions, with important phenomenological predictions. We show that, if the Majoron becomes massive, such seesaw scenario provides a viable candidate for decaying dark matter, consistent with cosmic microwave background lifetime constraints that follow from current WMAP observations. We also calculate the subleading one-loop-induced decay into photons which leads to a monoenergetic emission line that may be observed in future x-r…

Results of the search for neutrinoless double-βdecay inMo100with the NEMO-3 experiment

2015

The NEMO-3 detector, which had been operating in the Modane Underground Laboratory from 2003 to 2010, was designed to search for neutrinoless double $\beta$ ($0\nu\beta\beta$) decay. We report final results of a search for $0\nu\beta\beta$ decays with $6.914$ kg of $^{100}$Mo using the entire NEMO-3 data set with a detector live time of $4.96$ yr, which corresponds to an exposure of 34.3 kg$\cdot$yr. We perform a detailed study of the expected background in the $0\nu\beta\beta$ signal region and find no evidence of $0\nu\beta\beta$ decays in the data. The level of observed background in the $0\nu\beta\beta$ signal region $[2.8-3.2]$ MeV is $0.44 \pm 0.13$ counts/yr/kg, and no events are obs…

φ production in annihilation at rest

1991

Abstract We report on measurements of the branching ratios for φ production in p p annihilation at rest in H 2 gas. Branching ratios for φπ 0 , φη, φϱ 0 , φω and φπ + π − are determined for two data sets with different contributions of annihilations from S and P states of the p p system. The branching ratios are compared to corresponding annihilation modes where the φ is replaced by an ω meson. We conclude that φ production is in most reactions enhanced with respect to the expectation based on the OZI rule. In annihilations from the spin triplet ground state of antiprotonic hydrogen into φπ the OZI rule is violated dramatically.

Do observations prove that cosmological neutrinos are thermally distributed?

2005

It is usually assumed that relic neutrinos possess a Fermi-Dirac distribution, acquired during thermal equilibrium in the Early Universe. However, various mechanisms could introduce strong distortions in this distribution. We perform a Bayesian likelihood analysis including the first moments of the three active neutrino distributions as free parameters, and show that current cosmological observations of light element abundances, Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies and Large Scale Structures (LSS) are compatible with very large deviations from the standard picture. We also calculate the bounds on non-thermal distortions which can be expected from future observations, and stress th…

Pinch technique self-energies and vertices to all orders in perturbation theory

2003

The all-order construction of the pinch technique gluon self-energy and quark-gluon vertex is presented in detail within the class of linear covariant gauges. The main ingredients in our analysis are the identification of a special Green's function, which serves as a common kernel to all self-energy and vertex diagrams, and the judicious use of the Slavnov-Taylor identity it satisfies. In particular, it is shown that the ghost-Green's functions appearing in this identity capture precisely the result of the pinching action at arbitrary order. By virtue of this observation the construction of the quark-gluon vertex becomes particularly compact. It turns out that the aforementioned ghost-Green…
