The frequency of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in the semen of patients with male accessory gland infection (MAGI) was evaluated. One hundred infertile patients with MAGI were classified into group A: patients with an inflammatory MAGI (n = 48) and group B: patients with a microbial form (n = 52). Healthy age-matched fertile men (34.0 ± 4.0 years) made up the control group (n = 20). Amplification of HPV DNA was carried out by HPV-HS Bio nested polymerase chain reaction for the detection of HPV DNA sequences within the L1 ORF. We have cloned from a cDNA library of human testis tissue the human homologue to the mouse nuclear orphan receptor NCNF (neuronal cell nuclear factor). The open reading frame encodes a protein of 480 amino acids, the sequence of which (EMBL accession no. X99975) is 98.3% identical to the mouse homologue. Northern blot analysis of adult human tissues revealed a broad pattern of tissue expression. Similar to NCNF expression in mouse testis, two transcript forms of the single copy gene are expressed in human tissues. The ABCB1 gene encodes for P-glycoprotein (P-gp), an efflux pump for a variety of xenobiotics. The role of ABCB1 polymorphisms in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) outcomes of standard chemotherapy (cytarabine plus anthracyclines) remains controversial. Purpose: To present some unusual MR findings in a group of patients from the south-west of the Dominican Republic suffering from Pantothenate Kinase Associated Neurodegeneration (PKAN). Materials and Methods: Twenty patients and one preclinical case homozygous for the PANK2 mutation, 13 heterozygous gene carriers and 14 healthy volunteers were scanned prospectively using a 3 Tesla system. Results: All patients showed the typical signal reduction within the globus pallidus and the substantia nigra. Associations between leprosy and serum protein groups

Serum protein group typings were done on a sample of n=173 adult healthy Negroes from the Macua tribe in Mozambique and on n=129 leprous individuals from the same tribe. Unfortunately, the type of leprosy is not known. Whilst between leprosy and haptoglobins, transferrins and Pi proteins no associations could be observed, statistically significant associations between leprosy and ceruloplasmin resp. β2 I were found. It is pointed out that these associations should be confirmed by further research on other populations and with respect to type and process of leprosy, until biological and population genetical interpretations will be possible.

California Psychotherapy Alliance Scale-Group (CALPAS-G) data were collected from 1,138 group sessions attended by 248 group members in 16 counseling groups. Hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) was used to derive between-groups, between-member, and between-session variance components and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) for the 12 CALPAS-G items. The thalassaemia syndromes (TS) show different phenotype severity. Developing a reliable, practical and global tool to determine disease severity and tailor treatment would be of great value. Overall, 7910 patients were analysed with the aim of constructing a complication risk score (CoRS) to evaluate the probability of developing one or more complications.
