Algebraic study of pyramidal molecules in the very excited vibrational states.

In the frame of the algebraic formalism U(p+1), we developed the method to build a vibrational Hamiltonian corresponding to a set of three identical oscillators. In order to test the model, we apply it to the molecules of stibine and arsine. We introduce a supplementary intermediate group K(3) inspired by the similar formalism used in nuclear physics. This group K(3) gives additional labels for classification of the energy levels. The eigenvalues of these invariant operators distinguish the local states of the molecule. The Molecular Basis of X-Linked Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Tarda

The X-linked form of spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia tarda (SEDL), a radiologically distinct skeletal dysplasia affecting the vertebrae and epiphyses, is caused by mutations in the SEDL gene. To characterize the molecular basis for SEDL, we have identified the spectrum of SEDL mutations in 30 of 36 unrelated cases of X-linked SEDL ascertained from different ethnic populations. Twenty-one different disease-associated mutations now have been identified throughout the SEDL gene. Starvation endurance in the antTemnothorax nylanderidepends on group size, body size and access to larvae

Social interactions in animal groups can buffer environmental stress and may enhance survival under unfavourable conditions. In the present study, the impact on starvation endurance of social group, access to larvae and cold shock is studied in the ant Temnothorax nylanderi Forster. Resource sharing is expected to lead to grouped workers surviving longer than isolated ones. Access to larvae may increase longevity if larvae serve as food, or may interfere with survival if they induce caring behaviour in workers. One reflection of these changes is life expectancy, which has improved in this period, although the robustness of this indicator prevents these changes from being of the same order as those for the probability of death. Extremal polynomials in stratified groups

We introduce a family of extremal polynomials associated with the prolongation of a stratified nilpotent Lie algebra. These polynomials are related to a new algebraic characterization of abnormal subriemannian geodesics in stratified nilpotent Lie groups. They satisfy a set of remarkable structure relations that are used to integrate the adjoint equations.

Steiner Loops of Affine Type

Steiner loops of affine type are associated to arbitrary Steiner triple systems. They behave to elementary abelian 3-groups as arbitrary Steiner Triple Systems behave to affine geometries over GF(3). We investigate algebraic and geometric properties of these loops often in connection to configurations. Steiner loops of affine type, as extensions of normal subloops by factor loops, are studied. We prove that the multiplication group of every Steiner loop of affine type with n elements is contained in the alternating group An and we give conditions for those loops having An as their multiplication groups (and hence for the loops being simple).

Synthesis of a Linear Assembly Consisting of a Central Ru(Phen)32+ Derivative and Two Peripheral Porphyrins

A ruthenium(II) precursor complex containing a bis-phenanthroline ligand, leading to a controlled helical structure around the metal centre, and a third phenanthroline-type ligand has been prepared. The spatial arrangement of the system is such that two chemical groups are disposed trans to one another on an axis running through the Ru centre. By appropriate functional group transformation, these two groups can be attached to monosubstituted zinc(II) porphyrins (PZn) to afford a linear array consisting of a central ruthenium(II) complex and two peripheral PZn motifs. Abstract: Chemical shifts of the para carbon atoms, δ(13C-4), in a series of aromatic amines were used to calculate the Ãp, ÃR and ÃOR substituent constants for different amino groups. 1-Pyrrolidino, N,N-di-n-butylamino and N,N-diethylamino groups were found to be the most strong electron-donors. ortho-Substitution decreases the donor properties of the amino group. The amino groups in 2,6-di-i-propylaniline and N,N-2,6-tetramethylaniline have very weak electron-donor properties. The nitrogen atom in benzoquinuclidine and N,N-dimethyl-2,6-di-i-propylaniline have an electron-acceptor character. Maximal Operators with Respect to the Numerical Range

Let $\mathfrak{n}$ be a nonempty, proper, convex subset of $\mathbb{C}$. The $\mathfrak{n}$-maximal operators are defined as the operators having numerical ranges in $\mathfrak{n}$ and are maximal with this property. Typical examples of these are the maximal symmetric (or accretive or dissipative) operators, the associated to some sesquilinear forms (for instance, to closed sectorial forms), and the generators of some strongly continuous semi-groups of bounded operators. In this paper the $\mathfrak{n}$-maximal operators are studied and some characterizations of these in terms of the resolvent set are given.
