Continuous professional development of teachers is of growing interest globally, as it is considered vital to cope effectively with ongoing changes and to improve the quality of education. This qualitative case study explores potential and actual barriers that hinder teachers’ professional development in Ethiopian schools. Data was collected via interviews and focus group discussions from 37 purposively sampled participants. Aims The aim of this study was to determine whether the Joint European Societies guidelines on secondary cardiovascular prevention are followed in everyday practice. Design A cross-sectional ESC-EORP survey (EUROASPIRE V) at 131 centres in 81 regions in 27 countries. Multilayers of CdSe/CdS/ZnCdS Core/Wings/Shell Nanoplatelets Integrated in a Polymer Waveguide

In this work, fabrication of multilayers of colloidal CdSe/CdS/ZnCdS core/wings/shell nanoplatelets (NPls) on solid substrates by layer-by-layer deposition technology is successfully demonstrated for the first time. Integration of multilayers of nanoplatelets into polymeric waveguide resulted in strong dichroism in absorption and polarization effects in photoluminescence with preferable absorption and emission of TE (horizontal) mode that evidences about in-plane orientation of NPls relative to the planar waveguide. The propagation of the excitation and emission light along the waveguide was thoroughly investigated both theoretically and experimentally for different number of NPl layers.

Abstract In the last years, a new group of enzymes, so-called silicateins, have been identified and characterized, which form the axial filaments of the spicules of the siliceous sponges, consisting of amorphous silica. Silicateins are able to catalyze the polycondensation and deposition of silica at mild conditions (low temperature and physiological pH). By means of these enzymes it is possible for the first time to produce silica nanostructures biocatalytically, which opens new ways for construction of biosensors.
