Architetture funerarie effimere a Palermo

2007

First breeding evidence of marbled duck (Marmaronetta angustirostris) in Libya.

2014

4 pages; International audience; The first evidence of breeding of Marbled Duck (Marmaronetta angustirostris) in Libya, North Africa, is reported. In June 2012, at Mallaha wetland, in Tripoli, Libya, two dead ducklings were found that were later genetically identified as Marbled Duck. This breeding evidence suggests that this and other duck species may breed elsewhere in Libya. Better knowledge on Libyan, and more generally on north African, waterbirds is needed to document the population size and the status of these species. Such information will be important to secure the future of threatened species, such as the Marbled Duck.

Revival e società a Palermo nell’Ottocento. Committenza, architetture, arredi tra identità siciliana e prospettiva nazionale

2020

Kreacje Tatarów w poematach Tomasza Augusta Olizarowskiego

2016

The article presents literary images of Tatars, which can be found in two poetic novels by the forgotten Romantic author, Tomasz August Olizarowski (1811-1879). The first of them, printed in 1836, is Krzyż w Peredylu. Pieśń wołyńska (The Cross in Peredil. A Volhynian Song), published for the second time in a revised version as Topir-Góra. Powieść wołyńska. Wedle miejscowego podania (Topir-Mountain. A Volhynian Novel. According to a Local Folk Tale). The second one, which in its title already refers to the Tatars, is Car-dziewica. Powieść tatarska (The Virgin-Tsar. A Tatar Novel), written in 1866. In Krzyż w Peredylu and in Topir-Góra, the poet shows Tatar people as representatives of the no…

Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil of the New Cultivars of Lavandula angustifolia Mill. Bred in Ukraine

2021

Lavender, otherwise known as Lavandula angustifolia Mill., is widely used in landscaping, and its oil is a valuable raw material used in many industries. Therefore, new varieties of this plant are bred. The essential oil composition obtained from fresh flowers of thirteen new Ukrainian cultivars of L. angustifolia were analysed by GC-MS, and eighty-two components were identified. Linalool and linalyl acetate were principal constituents of all of the samples, and ranged from 11.4% to 46.7% and 7.4% to 44.2%, respectively. None of the studied samples fulfilled the requirements of Ph. Eur. and ISO 3515:2002. The main reason was a high content of α-terpineol (0.5–4.5%) and/or terpinene-4-ol (1.…

Evaluation of the validity of temporal sensory evaluation methods carried out by consumers on controlled stimuli delivered by a gustometer

2023

Temporal sensory evaluation is increasingly used with consumers. However, very few studies have investigated the repeatability and resolution of the methods used. Thus, this study aimed to fill in the gap by comparing the conclusions drawn from data collected using three temporal sensory methods performed with consumers on time model solutions delivered using a gustometer. One hundred and fifty consumers were recruited. After familiarization and a recognition task, they were divided into 3 panels, each using a different method to describe their temporal perception: Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS), Temporal Check-All-That-Apply (TCATA), and Attack-Evolution-Finish (AEF). Fourteen solu…

Perceptual Self-Awareness in Seneca, Augustine, and Olivi

2013

This article traces the philosophical idea of self-perception from the times of ancient Stoicism to the thirteenth century by analyzing the views of Seneca, Augustine, and Olivi. The central argument is that they defend the same idea according to which self-preservation and the appropriate use of one’s body requires awareness thereof, despite the obvious contextual differences and the uncertainty of direct historical connections between the authors. They think that this kind of self-awareness does not belong only to human beings, because irrational animals need to perceive their bodies, the functions of their bodily parts, and to perceive themselves as living beings in order to act appropri…
